How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

SRT Marine Systems plc (SRT) is a market leader in the domain of international marine surveillance technology and systems. We are a respected, established, and an ambitious multi-national company headquartered in the UK with a global customer base.

The company has a worldwide impact in the marine sector by leading the next generation of maritime domain awareness technologies "MDA", products, and systems that significantly enhance security, safety, environmental protection, and sustainability. Our customers are global and range from the largest national coast guards to individual vessel owners.

We are now entering a new and strategically significant phase of growth, characterised by the expansion of our systems to incorporate Land Border Surveillance Systems. Our new Sovereign Territory Surveillance (STS) Systems will play a crucial role in enhancing civil defence security through the deployment of advanced automated security infrastructures. Utilised by nations worldwide, these technologies facilitate the monitoring of sovereign land borders, thereby strengthening border integrity and national security.

Mechanical Design and Integration Engineer - Mobile Surveillance Towers (Sovereign Territory Surveillance)

We are seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Design and Integration Engineer - Mobile Surveillance Towers
to own the design and development of mobile ruggedised surveillance tower systems deployed across marine and land border environments. You will own the full system design and integration package from concept generation through prototype development, testing, and production, delivering systems capable of operating in some of the harshest environments on earth.

Working closely with other internal SRT teams such as Systems Engineering, Product Management and Project Engineering, you will develop mobile tower structures, sensor payload interfaces, and associated infrastructure that support advanced surveillance capabilities, including radar, EO/IR systems, communications equipment, and autonomous sensors.

The ideal new colleague will be equally comfortable with the design of mechanical and electrical installations, CAD designs and engineering drawings, building and integrating prototypes, and troubleshooting in the field.

Please note - the role of Mechanical Design and Integration Engineer - Mobile Surveillance Towers is a hybrid role, working both in our Bristol office, WFH and site visits to our global customers.

Key Responsibilities - Mechanical Design and Integration Engineer - Mobile Surveillance Towers (not exhaustive):

Own ruggedised mobile surveillance tower hardware design from concept generation through prototype development, qualification, and production realisation under demanding timelines
Own the end-to-end engineering process, translating requirements into robust, manufacturable products from concept and design through testing, qualification, and production release
Design and develop structural, mechanical, and electromechanical installations of sensors, mounts, enclosures, deployment mechanisms, and equipment interfaces
Lead design reviews, perform engineering analysis, and define and execute verification and environmental test plans
Design for operation in harsh environments, accounting for wind loading, vibration, corrosion, thermal effects, ingress protection, and long-term maintainability
Build and evaluate prototypes of complex mechanical and electromechanical systems
Coordinate with suppliers and manufacturing partners to transition successful concepts into production
Investigate failures, perform root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions
Support internal testing, customer trials, and operational deployments
Travel to suppliers, integration facilities, and remote test sites as required

Requirements - Mechanical Design and Integration Engineer - Mobile Surveillance Towers (not exhaustive):

Self-starter with extensive professional experience designing mechanical or electromechanical systems
Proven experience delivering ruggedised hardware products from concept through production
Strong understanding of system integration, mechanical design, electrical design, environmental loading, and system testing
    Proficiency in 3D CAD tools
Ability to understand and produce high-quality engineering drawings
Experience planning and executing testing and validation activities
Comfortable working across multiple engineering disciplines in fast-paced development environments
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a practical, hands-on approach to engineering challenges

    Highly Beneficial Qualifications and Experience

Engineering degree in Electrical/Electronics, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering, or Product Design Engineering
Experience designing equipment for defence, surveillance, telecommunications, aerospace, offshore, or other harsh-environment applications
Experience integrating sensors, radar systems, EO/IR payloads, communications equipment, or power systems

    Benefits Package

    Excellent salary and package
    Private health care
