How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

    Leeds, Yorkshire
£60,000 - £65,000 per annum (depending on experience)
    Permanent, Full-Time

    The Opportunity:

An established building services design consultancy is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join its Leeds-based team.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on a varied portfolio of technically demanding building projects, supporting schemes from the initial design and concept stages through to detailed design and delivery.

The successful candidate will provide high-level mechanical building services expertise while working closely with project leaders, engineers, external consultants and other members of the wider design team.

The position would suit an experienced engineer with a strong technical understanding of mechanical building services and the ability to apply sound engineering judgement to complex project requirements.

    The Role:

As Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will take responsibility for the mechanical design elements of assigned projects, ensuring that solutions are technically accurate, coordinated, practical and delivered to the required quality standards.

You will produce calculations, drawings, specifications and technical reports, while contributing to project planning, quality assurance and the development of less experienced engineers.

The role requires a collaborative approach, strong communication skills and the ability to manage design responsibilities across multiple projects and deadlines.

    Key Responsibilities:

    * Lead the mechanical building services design elements of assigned projects.

    * Develop technically robust, sustainable and energy-efficient design solutions.

    * Carry out mechanical design calculations and provide technical input throughout project delivery.

    * Produce and review drawings, specifications, schedules and technical reports.

    * Ensure mechanical systems are designed in accordance with project requirements, current regulations and relevant industry standards.

    * Work collaboratively with project leaders, engineers, architects, contractors and other design disciplines.

    * Coordinate mechanical designs with electrical, structural and architectural requirements.

    * Contribute to the planning of project timescales, resources and design deliverables.

    * Monitor progress against agreed programmes and identify potential technical or delivery risks.

    * Apply internal quality assurance procedures to maintain technical accuracy and presentation standards.

    * Review project information and ensure design changes are accurately recorded and communicated.

    * Support the use of digital design and delivery tools to improve quality, coordination and efficiency.

    * Provide technical guidance, mentoring and support to junior and trainee engineers.

    * Lead by example through a professional, positive and delivery-focused approach.

    * Contribute to design reviews, technical meetings and client discussions.

    * Assist with the resolution of design, coordination and installation-related issues.

    * Capture and share technical knowledge, project learning and best practice across the wider engineering team.

    Skills and Experience:

    The successful candidate should demonstrate:

    * Substantial experience in the design of mechanical building services systems.

    * Strong knowledge of relevant design standards, regulations and industry guidance.

    * Experience delivering projects through concept, detailed design and construction stages.

    * The ability to produce and review mechanical calculations, drawings, specifications and reports.

    * Strong technical problem-solving skills and the ability to apply engineering judgement to new challenges.

    * Excellent communication, coordination and project-management skills.

    * The ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and meeting project deadlines.

    * Experience supporting or mentoring less experienced engineers.

    * A collaborative approach and the confidence to represent the design team in internal and external meetings.

    Qualifications:

Applicants should hold a degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.

Professional membership or progress towards Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status would be advantageous but is not essential.

    Package:

A salary of £60,000 to £65,000 per annum is available, depending on experience and technical capability.

The position also offers the opportunity to work on varied building services projects within an experienced engineering team, with ongoing scope for professional development and career progression
