How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    12 Months Initially
    30 Hours per Week | Term Time Only + 3 weeks

    Hays Education are working in partnership with a welcoming and friendly school in Preston to recruit a dedicated School Finance Officer. This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive school environment where you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth and efficient management of the school's finances.

    The role is offered on a 12-month basis, in the first instance, with working arrangements of approximately 30 hours per week, term time only + 3 weeks contract.

    Your new role

    Reporting to the School Business Manager, you will support the day-to-day financial operations of the school, ensuring accuracy, compliance and effective financial administration.

    Processing purchase orders, invoices and payments
    Reconciling accounts and maintaining accurate financial records
    Supporting budget monitoring and financial reporting
    Managing income collection and banking procedures
    Liaising with suppliers and resolving invoice queries
    Assisting with month-end and year-end financial processes
    Supporting payroll administration where required
    Ensuring compliance with school financial regulations and proceduresWhat you'll need to succeed

    To be successful in this role, you will have:

    Previous finance experience, ideally within a school or public sector setting
    Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail
    Experience using financial systems and Microsoft Excel
    The ability to manage competing priorities and work independently
    Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach

    A recognised finance qualification, such as AAT, would be highly desirable, although candidates with strong relevant experience will also be considered.What you'll get in return
