How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

A housing provider is looking for a Fire Safety Surveyor to support the delivery of safe, well-maintained homes across its property portfolio. This role sits within the fire safety team and focuses on ensuring fire risk assessment works are progressed properly, completed within agreed timescales and delivered to the required statutory and regulatory standards.

This is a role where the work has a clear purpose. You will be helping to make sure residents, leaseholders and wider stakeholders receive a reliable service, while also supporting the organisation’s responsibilities around fire safety, compliance and property standards.

    Why consider this role?

You will be joining an established housing organisation where fire safety is central to resident safety, service quality and long-term asset management. The role offers a good mix of technical surveying, contractor management, inspection work and stakeholder liaison, giving you visibility across both operational delivery and compliance.

The position also offers variety across the working week. You will be based from Horsham on a hybrid basis, with travel to sites as required. Inspection areas may include Brighton, Eastbourne, Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight, including possible overnight stays where needed.

The package includes a salary of £55,346, a £1,800 Essential Car User Allowance and mileage paid at 43p per mile. Wider benefits are to be confirmed through the final Southern contract, but the package being used for the role includes pension, annual leave plus bank holidays, training and development support, employee assistance and wellbeing support, healthcare cash plan/wellbeing benefits and life assurance.

    What you’ll be doing

You will oversee designated fire risk assessment works, helping to make sure actions are completed within required timescales and that progress is properly tracked and reported.

    Key responsibilities will include:

Managing fire risk assessment tasks through Riskhub and reporting on progress.
Liaising with Fire Authorities and ensuring passive fire actions linked to Notices of Deficiency are completed on time.
Assessing building defects, preparing remedial proposals and producing specifications for repair works.
Obtaining quotations and estimates in line with procurement procedures.
Monitoring contractors and consultants, including quality checks, site inspections and health and safety spot checks.
Maintaining accurate records across relevant systems and handling stakeholder communication to a high standard. What they are looking for

You will need strong fire/building surveying experience in a maintenance environment, with confidence carrying out pre and post inspections and managing remedial works through to completion.

    Essential experience and qualifications include:

Demonstrable experience as a fire or building surveyor in a maintenance environment.
NEBOSH Fire or equivalent fire qualification.
Working knowledge of the Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order 2005.
Experience working with contractors using SOR and non-SOR contracts.
Ability to produce detailed specifications of work.
Strong knowledge of building regulations, health and safety legislation, codes of practice, standards and materials.
Full driving licence and access to your own vehicle. You should also bring good contract management knowledge, strong written and verbal communication skills, sound IT skills and the ability to manage a varied workload with attention to detail.

Membership of RICS, CIOB, IFE or a similar professional organisation would be desirable, as would experience working with a direct labour force.

Travel between sites is required. The role may involve visits across areas including Brighton, Eastbourne, Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight, with possible overnight stays. There may also occasionally be meetings or activities outside normal working hours. DBS safeguarding clearances are required for the role.

If your experience matches what they are looking for, please apply as soon as possible. We will review applications promptly and contact suitable candidates to discuss the role in more detail
