How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.

    Rolling Stock Maintenance Technician (Training Provided)

    Excellent Opportunity to Build a Career in Rolling Stock Maintenance

    Location: Crawley

    Pay Rate (PAYE)

    T2A: £21.58 per hour PAYE (umbrella first 12 week 27.53 rising to £29.01) - Suitable for candidates with NVQ Level 2. Following successful completion of the rolling stock training programme (typically around 6 months), you will progress to the T2B rate.
    T2B: £22.30 per hour PAYE (umbrella first 12 week 28.45 rising to £29.98) - For candidates who already hold an NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent).

    Shift Pattern

    Approximately 5 on / 5 off, working 12-hour rotating day and night shifts. The exact roster varies slightly but follows a similar pattern. Applicants must be willing to work both days and nights.

    Hours: 40-48 hours per week, plus regular overtime opportunities.

    Contract Duration: Ongoing assignment with a guaranteed minimum of 6 months. Expected duration is 24-36 months, with the opportunity to secure a permanent position, subject to performance.

    Working on the Class 700 electric train fleet, you'll receive comprehensive training to become a skilled Rolling Stock Maintenance Technician, joining one of the world's leading transportation companies in an exciting and growing industry.

    You'll be carrying out general maintenance across the entire train, working on a wide range of systems including:

    Underframe equipment
    Traction motors
    Power systems
    Pantographs
    Air conditioning systems
    Toilet systems
    Mechanical and electrical components
    General fault finding and maintenance from top to bottom of the train

    This role is ideal for candidates from backgrounds including:

    Light Vehicle Mechanics
    HGV/Heavy Vehicle Technicians
    Plant Maintenance
    Industrial or Manufacturing Maintenance
    Aviation Engineering
    Armed Forces (REME or other technical trades)
    Motor Mechanics
    Electrical Maintenance Engineers
    Industrial Electricians

    The Role

    As a Maintenance Technician, you'll carry out planned and corrective maintenance on passenger rolling stock, ensuring the fleet remains safe, reliable and available for service.

    Working within a skilled engineering team, your responsibilities will include:

    Carrying out routine inspections, servicing and preventative maintenance
    Diagnosing and rectifying mechanical and electrical faults
    Completing repairs on braking systems, pneumatics, wheelsets and other mechanical assemblies
    Undertaking vehicle examinations in accordance with Vehicle Maintenance Instructions (VMIs)
    Rectifying in-service defects safely and efficiently
    Recording maintenance activities using electronic maintenance systems
    Completing job cards, service sheets and maintenance documentation
    Liaising with the Parts Department to source replacement components
    Operating lifting and mechanical handling equipment safely
    Producing fault-finding reports where required
    Supporting continuous improvement initiatives
    Maintaining excellent housekeeping standards
    Promoting a strong health and safety culture at all times

    What We're Looking For

    We're looking for enthusiastic mechanical or electrical engineers with strong fault-finding skills and a willingness to learn.

    Suitable backgrounds include:

    Mechanical maintenance
    Electrical maintenance
    Vehicle maintenance
    Industrial or manufacturing maintenance
    Heavy vehicle or plant maintenance
    Aviation engineering
    Armed Forces technical trades (particularly REME)
    Mechanical or electrical fault finding
    Experience using maintenance reporting systems
    Good Health & Safety awareness

    Qualifications

    Essential

    NVQ Level 2 in a Mechanical or Electrical discipline (or equivalent practical experience)

    Desirable

    NVQ Level 3 in a relevant discipline
    At least 12 months' relevant maintenance experience
