How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Field Service Generator Engineer

    Preston, Manchester & Liverpool

    Permanent | Full Time
    An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Field Service Generator Engineer to join a growing engineering business specialising in generator hire, maintenance and power solutions across the UK.
    Due to continued growth, the business is looking to strengthen its engineering team with experienced engineers who have a strong background in diesel generators, industrial diesel engines and standby power systems. This is a varied field-based role offering long-term career prospects, regular overtime and ongoing manufacturer and technical training.

    The Role

    Working across Preston, Manchester, Liverpool and the wider North West, you'll be responsible for servicing, maintaining, fault finding and repairing diesel generators at customer sites, while also supporting the company's expanding generator hire fleet.
    This role will see you working on standby and prime power generators across a wide range of commercial, industrial and critical infrastructure environments.

    Key Responsibilities

    Carry out planned preventative maintenance and servicing on diesel generator sets.
    Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults.
    Perform load bank testing to ensure equipment is operating safely and efficiently.
    Complete pre-hire and post-hire inspections on generator hire equipment.
    Service, maintain and repair the company's generator rental fleet.
    Carry out emergency breakdown repairs to minimise customer downtime.
    Undertake temporary repairs where required to maintain customer operations until permanent repairs can be completed.
    Support generator installations, commissioning and decommissioning when required.
    Assist with fabrication work and UPS battery installations where necessary.
    Complete service reports and compliance documentation accurately.
    Maintain company vehicles, tools and equipment to a high standard.
    Deliver a professional level of customer service on every visit.

    What You'll Need

    Previous experience working as a Generator Engineer, Field Service Engineer, Diesel Generator Engineer or Power Generation Engineer.
    Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification such as NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent.
    At least two years' experience servicing and repairing diesel generators.
    Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.
    Experience working on industrial diesel engines and standby power equipment.
    Willingness to travel and stay away from home when required.
    Flexible approach with the ability to support a range of engineering activities.
    Participation in a 24/7 call out rota.
    Full UK Driving Licence.

    Desirable

    Experience working on multiple generator manufacturers.
    Manufacturer training or accredited certifications.
    Experience working independently within a field service environment.
    Good customer service and communication skills.
