How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Location: Various Children's Family Homes across Wolverhampton, including Upper Pendeford Farm Short Breaks Home
    Salary: £15.56 per hour
    Start Date: 24 August 2026
    Enhanced DBS Required
    Qualification Required: NVQ Level 3 in Children and Young People (or equivalent)

    About the Homes

    You'll work across a range of Children's Family Homes in Wolverhampton, including Upper Pendeford Farm specialist Short Breaks Home.

    Upper Pendeford Farm

    6-bed residential home
    Typically supports 2-4 children at a time
    Provides short break and respite care
    Supports children with emotional and behavioural needs
    Focuses on delivering personalised, high-quality care in a welcoming home environment

    What You'll Do

    Every day is different, but your impact will be constant.

    As a Children's Home Care Worker, you will:

    Create a safe, caring and supportive home environment
    Build trusted relationships with children and young people
    Support children in line with their individual care plans
    Act as a Key Worker, helping develop and review support plans
    Encourage emotional, social, educational and personal development
    Help children build confidence, independence and life skills
    Plan and participate in fun, meaningful activities and experiences
    Support attendance at school, appointments and community activities
    Prepare nutritious meals while meeting individual dietary needs
    Maintain accurate records and reports
    Work closely with families, social workers, schools and health professionals
    Champion safeguarding and advocate for children and young people's needs
    Help maintain a warm, welcoming and well-organised home

    What We're Looking For

    We're looking for people who genuinely care and are passionate about making a difference.

    You'll ideally have:

    Experience working with children and young people, particularly those with emotional and behavioural needs
    A strong understanding of the needs of children in care
    Knowledge of safeguarding practices, including responding to child protection concerns and missing episodes
    Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
    A patient, empathetic and resilient approach
    The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
    Flexibility to work across different homes and undertake sleep-in shiftsA full UK driving licence is desirable.

    Important Information

    This role involves shift work, including sleep-in duties.
    Successful candidates must be willing to work across Children's Family Homes throughout Wolverhampton.
    There may be occasions where approved restraint techniques are required following specialist training. The service is fully committed to the principles of the Restraint Reduction Network and promotes positive behaviour support approaches.
