How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Assistant Estimator / Quantity Surveyor
    Southend-on-Sea
    Permanent Position
    Salary: DOE

    We’re partnered with a well-established and highly respected civil engineering and construction contractor operating across Essex, London, and the Southeast.

    With a strong pipeline of infrastructure, groundworks, and major development projects, this privately owned business has earned a reputation for delivering complex schemes, building long-term client relationships, and investing in its people.

    Unlike heavily corporate contractors, the environment is fast-moving, collaborative, and gives ambitious individuals genuine exposure to real project delivery. This is the perfect opportunity for someone looking to move beyond theory and become a key part of a high-performing commercial team.

    The Opportunity

    Working alongside experienced Estimators and Quantity Surveyors, you’ll be involved in the full commercial lifecycle of construction and infrastructure projects - from tender stage through to cost management and project support.

    Expect hands-on involvement, direct access to senior professionals, and the chance to develop quickly within a business where performance is noticed.

    What You’ll Be Doing

    * Assisting with quantity take-offs and cost estimates

    * Supporting the preparation and submission of competitive tenders

    * Reviewing drawings, specifications, and project information

    * Obtaining and analysing pricing from subcontractors and suppliers

    * Monitoring project costs and supporting budget control

    * Helping maintain accurate commercial records throughout the project lifecycle

    * Developing technical and commercial expertise through close mentorship from senior team members

    What They’re Looking For

    * You may be a recent graduate, trainee, or someone with early industry experience who is hungry to learn and progress.

    * Ideal background:

    * Knowledge of quantity surveying, estimating, or construction costing

    * Understanding of construction methods and materials

    * Strong numerical and analytical skills

    * Excellent attention to detail

    * Good communication and teamwork abilities

    * Proficiency in Microsoft Office

    * Estimating software experience is beneficial but not essential

    * A degree, diploma, or formal training in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field is advantageous

    * Most importantly, they’re looking for someone with drive, curiosity, and the confidence to take ownership of their development.

    Why This Opportunity Stands Out

    * Established, financially stable contractor

    * Strong regional reputation and long-term project pipeline.

    * Varied infrastructure and construction projects

    * Exposure to roads, drainage, groundworks, and major developments.

    * Mentorship from experienced commercial professionals

    * Learn directly from people delivering projects, not just managing spreadsheets.

    * Real career progression

    * A business where people are trusted with responsibility early.

    * Supportive, team-driven culture

    * Less red tape, more collaboration and faster decision-making.

    This is more than an entry-level commercial role. It’s a chance to join a contractor where you can see the projects being built, work closely with operational teams, and develop into a fully rounded construction commercial professional.

    If you’re looking for a business that combines stability, variety, and genuine opportunity, this could be the move that accelerates your career.

    Ready to Apply?

    If you’re an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor or Estimator who wants broader project exposure, closer access to senior commercial professionals, and the opportunity to develop within a respected regional contractor, this role offers a strong platform for long-term progression.

    The business is actively recruiting, and interviews are being arranged immediately. Candidates with relevant construction, groundworks, infrastructure, or civil engineering experience are encouraged to apply as soon as possible
