How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Head of Residential Conveyancing

    West Sussex

    Competitive Salary + Benefits Package

    Company

Our client is a well-established and highly respected law firm with a longstanding reputation for delivering trusted legal advice to private individuals and businesses across the region. The practice has a strong and loyal client base, with Residential Conveyancing forming a key part of its successful and growing offering.

The firm handles a broad spectrum of residential property matters, ranging from first-time buyer transactions and new-build developments through to high-value property acquisitions exceeding £3 million. With continued investment planned, including the implementation of a new case management system, the business is entering an exciting phase of development and growth.

As part of its long-term strategy, the firm is seeking to appoint a Head of Residential Conveyancing to lead and further develop the department, working closely with the Managing Partner and existing experienced fee earners.

    Role & Responsibilities

    * Lead and oversee the Residential Conveyancing department, managing a varied and high-quality caseload from instruction through to completion

    * Provide guidance, support and mentorship to existing team members while helping to shape the future structure of the department

    * Work closely with senior leadership to develop and implement growth plans for the Residential Conveyancing offering

    * Act as a key point of contact for clients, agents, introducers and other stakeholders, ensuring exceptional levels of service are maintained

    * Drive departmental performance, profitability and operational efficiency

    * Contribute to recruitment, team development and succession planning as the department expands

    * Play an active role in the ongoing implementation and optimisation of a new case management system

    * Support networking and business development initiatives to further strengthen the firm's market presence

    * Help foster a collaborative, positive and commercially focused culture across the practice

    Objective Expertise & Subjective Traits

Suitable candidates for this role are likely to have the following backgrounds:

    * Qualified Solicitor, Licensed Conveyancer or Legal Executive with significant Residential Conveyancing experience

    * Approximately 5–25 years PQE, although applications from candidates outside this range will also be considered where relevant experience can be demonstrated

    * Strong technical expertise across a broad range of residential property transactions

    * Previous team leadership experience would be advantageous but is not essential; individuals looking to take their first step into a leadership role are encouraged to apply

    * Commercially aware with excellent client relationship and stakeholder management skills

    * Organised, proactive and capable of managing competing priorities effectively

    * Down-to-earth, approachable and hands-on in style

    * Committed to maintaining high standards of client service while supporting a healthy work-life balance

    The Opportunity

    * The opportunity to lead and develop an established Residential Conveyancing team within a highly regarded regional practice

    * A genuine chance to shape the department's future growth strategy and influence wider business decisions

    * An environment that values collaboration, flexibility and work-life balance

    * Planned investment in technology and systems to support future growth and hybrid working

    * Flexibility around hybrid working arrangements following implementation of the new case management system

If this opportunity is of interest and you would like to find out more in complete confidence, please submit your CV for consideration
