How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Associate Director – Technical Services
    Location: Liverpool
Salary: Up to £65,000 + Benefits
    Role: Permanent | Full Time

Looking for a role where your influence extends beyond your own projects?

As an Associate Director, you've built your career delivering complex technical work, developing client relationships and supporting the growth of your team. But perhaps you're now looking for an opportunity where you can have a greater impact on the wider business.

Our client is a growing organisation delivering specialist environmental, surveying, planning and infrastructure services. As they continue to expand, they're looking for an experienced technical leader to join the business and help shape the future of their multidisciplinary technical function.

This is a newly created leadership role where you'll combine your technical expertise with people leadership, commercial awareness and strategic thinking to support the continued growth of the business.

    The Opportunity
Working alongside the senior leadership team, you'll provide leadership across a multidisciplinary department, supporting teams within planning, surveying, environmental monitoring and GIS.

You'll work closely with managers to ensure projects are delivered successfully, teams are effectively resourced and clients continue to receive an exceptional service. Rather than focusing solely on your own technical discipline, you'll help bring together multiple specialist teams, encouraging collaboration and sharing best practice across the business.

A key part of the role will be developing people. You'll coach managers, mentor technical professionals and help identify future leaders, creating a culture where people are supported to grow and perform at their best.

You'll also play an important role in the commercial success of the business, strengthening relationships with existing clients, supporting tender submissions, identifying new opportunities and contributing to the strategic direction of the technical function.

This is an opportunity to move into a role where your leadership, commercial thinking and ability to develop people will be just as important as your technical background.

    What We're Looking For
We're looking for an experienced leader with a strong consultancy background who enjoys developing people, building relationships and influencing the future direction of a business.

    You'll ideally have:
    · Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in a relevant technical discipline
    · Experience within environmental consultancy, planning, surveying, engineering, GIS or infrastructure
    · Previous experience operating at Principal Consultant, Associate Director or senior management level
    · Strong commercial awareness with experience developing client relationships and supporting business growth
    · Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and mentoring technical professionals
    · Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
    · A collaborative leadership style with a passion for developing people

    Suitable Backgrounds
We'd particularly like to hear from professionals currently working as:
    · Associate Director
    · Principal Consultant
    · Technical Director
    · Technical Manager
    · Head of Technical Services
    · Operations Manager
    · Environmental Manager
    · Survey Manager
    · Planning Manager

Whether you're already operating at Associate Director level or you're a senior technical leader ready for a broader leadership role, we'd love to hear from you.

    Key Responsibilities
    · Provide leadership across multidisciplinary technical teams
    · Develop managers and mentor technical professionals
    · Build and maintain strong client relationships
    · Support business development and identify opportunities for growth
    · Improve operational performance and technical capability
    · Work closely with senior leadership on strategic planning and departmental development
    · Drive collaboration across planning, surveying, environmental monitoring and GIS
    · Help shape the future growth of the technical function

    What's in it for You?
    · Salary up to £65,000
    · Newly created leadership role with genuine influence across the business
    · Opportunity to help shape the future of a growing technical function
    · Diverse portfolio of environmental, surveying, planning and infrastructure projects
    · Long-term career progression
    · Supportive and collaborative senior leadership team

    Commutable Locations
