How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Freelance Project Manager – Water Sector (Stormwater & Wastewater Treatment)

    Location: West & South Yorkshire
    Day Rate: £400–£500 per day (DOE)

    Our client is a major Tier One contractor operating nationally, with a significant presence in the UK water sector and a substantial pipeline of future works secured.

    Due to continued growth and an expanding portfolio of stormwater and wastewater treatment schemes, they are looking to appoint experienced Freelance Project Managers to support project delivery across West and South Yorkshire.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a Project Manager who combines strong operational delivery experience with the ability to add value during the pre-construction phase. The client is particularly interested in candidates who understand how to develop projects effectively before they reach site, helping to improve programme certainty, buildability and commercial outcomes.

    The Role

    You will take responsibility for managing projects from pre-construction through to completion, ensuring safe, efficient and commercially successful delivery.

    Working closely with clients, designers, commercial teams, estimators, site teams and supply chain partners, you will play a key role in planning and delivering complex water infrastructure projects.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Manage the delivery of stormwater and wastewater treatment projects across West and South Yorkshire.

    * Lead projects through pre-construction, construction and commissioning phases.

    * Support early project planning, procurement and mobilisation activities.

    * Review designs for buildability and identify opportunities for value engineering.

    * Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, subcontractors and suppliers.

    * Manage project programmes, budgets, risks and performance.

    * Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.

    * Develop and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships.

    * Provide clear reporting on project progress, risks and opportunities.

    About You

    You will be an experienced Project Manager with a strong background delivering projects within the UK water sector.

    You will have a proven track record of operational project delivery, combined with experience working in a pre-construction environment. You will understand the importance of early contractor involvement and how effective planning, design coordination and commercial input contribute to successful project outcomes.

    Essential Experience

    * Proven experience managing water infrastructure projects.

    * Strong knowledge of stormwater and wastewater treatment schemes.

    * Experience delivering projects from pre-construction through to completion.

    * Experience working with design teams, commercial teams and supply chain partners.

    * Strong understanding of project planning, risk management and programme delivery.

    * Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills.

    Desirable

    * Experience working on AMP programmes.

    * Experience with NEC contracts.

    * APM, PRINCE2 or equivalent project management qualification.

    * SMSTS and CSCS accreditation.

    * Civil engineering or related infrastructure background.

    What's on Offer

    * Freelance contract opportunity.

    * £400–£500 per day, depending on experience.

    * Based across West and South Yorkshire.

    * Opportunity to work with a leading Tier One contractor.

    * Long-term opportunities supported by a significant pipeline of future water sector projects.

    * Involvement in major stormwater and wastewater treatment schemes.

    If you are an experienced Project Manager looking for a long-term freelance opportunity with a leading contractor and have the ability to influence projects from pre-construction through to delivery, we would like to hear from you
