How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Operations Support Technician

    Location: Barrow-in-Furness
    Pay: £300.00 - £450.00 per day PAYE (DOE)
    Contract: Long-term Contract (2+ Years)
    Hours: 37 Hours per Week, Monday to Friday

    Land and Sea Resources are recruiting for an experienced Operations Support Technician to join a major energy operator based at Barrow Gas Terminal.

    This Operations Support Technician opportunity is ideal for candidates with experience in oil & gas, petrochemical, process plant, terminal operations or maintenance who are looking for a long-term contract with an industry-leading organisation. The Operations Support Technician will play a key role in supporting the safe, compliant and efficient delivery of production and maintenance activities across the terminal.

    As an Operations Support Technician, you will provide frontline operational support, ensuring work is carried out safely and in accordance with Safe Systems of Work (SSoW), Operating Integrity (OI) requirements and Permit to Work procedures. The Operations Support Technician will be responsible for gas testing, isolation verification, field inspections and supporting maintenance activities to ensure safe plant operations.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Carry out daily gas testing to ensure safe working conditions.

    * Verify plant isolations and perform isolation integrity checks.

    * Apply and verify Isolation Control Certificates (ICC) using a two-person verification process.

    * Develop and support robust isolation plans for maintenance activities.

    * Conduct Joint Integrity Management (JIM) inspections.

    * Identify and report leaks, weeps and plant defects.

    * Carry out Level and Containment (LO/LC) surveys to maintain asset integrity.

    * Support production operations through field monitoring and operational intervention.

    * Assist with non-routine operational activities across the terminal.

    * Support tanker operations when required.

    * Assist with Permit to Work readiness, HIC development and Risk Assessments.

    * Liaise with Operations, Maintenance and Control of Work teams to ensure work is safely coordinated.

    * Identify hazards, ensure compliance with company procedures and maintain high safety standards.

    * Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve operational performance and plant reliability.

    Essential Skills & Experience

    * Previous experience as an Operations Support Technician, Process Technician, Operations Technician, Production Technician or Maintenance Technician within oil & gas, petrochemical, chemical processing or heavy industry.

    * Strong understanding of Permit to Work systems, Safe Systems of Work and isolation procedures.

    * Experience carrying out gas testing and field-based operational support.

    * Knowledge of plant operations, maintenance activities and asset integrity.

    * Excellent communication and organisational skills.

    * Strong commitment to health, safety and environmental compliance.

    * Ability to work closely with multidisciplinary operations and maintenance teams.

    Qualifications

    * BTEC or equivalent qualification in an Engineering discipline.

    * Engineering Apprenticeship with ONC or equivalent is highly desirable.

    * Degree qualification in Engineering is advantageous.

    * IOSH or other relevant Health & Safety qualifications are desirable.
