How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Location: Gloucester
    Salary: £30,000 - £32,000
    Contract: Permanent
    Hours: Full Time

Join a business where material accuracy and operational efficiency drive success.

We are looking for a proactive and detail-focused Materials Controller to join our team in Gloucester. This is an excellent permanent opportunity for someone who enjoys a hands-on role, balancing warehouse operations with inventory administration and cross-functional collaboration.

As a key member of the supply chain function, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, availability and movement of materials across both on-site and off-site storage locations. Working closely with Warehouse, Purchasing, Planning and Customer Service teams, you'll play a vital role in maintaining stock integrity and supporting the smooth flow of materials throughout the business.

This is a varied position, with approximately 70% of your time spent within the warehouse environment carrying out stock investigations, material checks and inventory control activities, and 30% office-based managing stock systems, reporting and administration.

    The Role

As a Materials Controller, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate inventory records, monitoring material movements and ensuring stock levels support operational requirements. You will investigate discrepancies, identify opportunities for process improvement and help maintain high standards of inventory accuracy across the organisation.

    Key Responsibilities

Manage material and stock accuracy across on-site and off-site warehouse locations.
Complete daily perpetual inventory (PI) counts and investigate stock discrepancies.
Receive and process incoming materials, stock receipts and returned non-conforming materials (NCRs).
Monitor stock transactions, warehouse transfers and inventory movements using Sage.
Generate stock identification and traceability labels.
Investigate material shortages, damaged stock, picking errors and customer queries, recording findings accurately.
Manage returnable assets, including stillages and pallet boxes, using the Trackabout system.
Produce daily, weekly and monthly inventory and materials reports.
Work closely with Purchasing, Planning, Warehouse and Customer Service teams to ensure material availability and efficient stock flow.
Lead fortnightly zero-pick and quarantine stock reviews and coordinate corrective actions.
Support warehouse and transport administration activities as required.
Provide training and operational cover for colleagues during periods of absence.
Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with company Health & Safety procedures and standards.

    About You

We're looking for someone who enjoys problem-solving, takes pride in accuracy and can build effective working relationships across multiple departments.

    Ideally, you will have:

Previous experience in a Materials Controller, Inventory Controller, Stock Controller or similar inventory management role.
Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
Experience using ERP or stock management systems such as Sage or Sicon.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across operational and commercial teams.
Strong analytical and investigative skills with the ability to identify and resolve stock discrepancies.
Exceptional attention to detail and organisational ability.
The capability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
A proactive and self-motivated approach to work.
A good understanding of inventory control processes and warehouse Health & Safety requirements.

    Essential Requirement

A full UK driving licence is essential. Occasional travel between warehouses (on the same business park) will be required.

    What's on Offer

    Salary of £30,000 - £32,000.
Permanent position with excellent long-term career prospects.
A varied and engaging role within a growing operational environment.
The opportunity to make a real impact on inventory accuracy and supply chain performance.
A collaborative and supportive team culture.
Exposure to multiple areas of warehouse operations, inventory control and supply chain activities.
