How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    82794 - Troubleperson

    This Troubleperson will report to the field staff supervisor and will work within Network Operations based in our Walton-on-Thames office. You will be a permanent employee in our UK Power Networks team.

    You will attract a salary of £49,812 plus Shift Allowance per annum, outer London weighting and a bonus of 3%

    If you are successful, you will need to undertake a medical and DBS reference check

    Job Purpose:

    The position, working as part of the Croydon & Kingston Area team will be responsible for the restoration of LV supplies on the UK Power Networks LV distribution system, carrying out jointing repairs on the HV and LV cable networks.

    After a period of appropriate training, you will be required to carry out the full range of Troubleperson activities including first line response and permanent fault repair work at voltages up to 33kV.

    Principal Accountabilities:

    Location of faults on the Distribution network

    The restoration of HV & LV supplies

    Testing and switching on the HV & LV network - and understanding the results of the tests and acting appropriately

    Any other relevant jointing duties

    Supervision of excavating teams

    Understanding operational and 1:500 diagrams

    LV and HV jointing

    Use of appropriate IT equipment including TDR, LV Faults sniffer and FFE equipment

    Immediate supervision of a working party

    Nature and Scope:

    The person undertaking this role plays a vital role in the safe and timely restoration of LV & HV supplies. The Company is regulated by various guidelines, and this role is particularly important in ensuring successful compliance with Customer Minutes Lost and Customer Interruption targets. The job holder may be required to work at any location within the UK Power Networks area, initially within the South East Region.

    Experience & Qualifications

    The following skills and attributes are important to this role

    City and Guilds 2339, formally 232,

    IOSH Managing Safety or be willing to undertake a course of study to achieve this

    Streetworks qualification Units 1, 2, 3 and supervisor

    Flexibility and able to work alone and in a team environment

    Ability to problem solve in a practical way

    Able to work under pressure

    Must have a clean driving licence

    Desirable

    SAP would be advantageous
