How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    An established manufacturing business in Exeter is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join its Design & Development team.
    This is an opportunity to work on the design, development and continuous improvement of engineered products, taking concepts through to production while working closely with Production Engineering and Purchasing to ensure products are optimised for manufacture.

    The Role

    Reporting to the Technical Engineering Manager, you will:

    Design and develop new mechanical products from concept through to production.
    Produce detailed engineering drawings for manufacture.
    Review and improve existing product designs to enhance manufacturability and reduce production costs.
    Carry out Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
    Complete tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure product functionality and ease of manufacture.
    Support New Product Development projects through to production handover.
    Work closely with Production Engineering, Development and Purchasing teams.
    Determine appropriate manufacturing methods for both in-house and external manufacture.
    Ensure projects are delivered within agreed timescales and quality standards. About You

    You will ideally have:

    Degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a strong engineering background.
    Experience developing products from prototype through to production.
    Strong sheet metal design knowledge, including folding and welding processes.
    Proven Design for Manufacture (DFM) experience.
    Experience completing DFMEA.
    Knowledge of tolerance stack-up analysis.
    Experience using Solid Edge or another 3D CAD package.
    Ability to produce 2D manufacturing drawings using GD&T.
    Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
    Experience working within a manufacturing environment. This is an excellent opportunity to join a successful engineering business offering a varied and technically challenging design role.
