How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Mechanical Bias Engineer (Days Food Manufacturing)
    Location: Redgrave
    Salary: £49206
    Shift Pattern: 4 on, 4 off | 6:00am – 6:00pm
    Reporting to: Maintenance Team Leader
    About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Bias Engineer to join our engineering team within a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and performance of production machinery through planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance, and continuous improvement activities.
Working as part of a multi-skilled engineering team, you will support the smooth operation of our production lines by responding quickly to equipment breakdowns, carrying out mechanical repairs, and identifying opportunities to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime. You'll play a vital role in maintaining production efficiency while ensuring all engineering activities are completed in line with Health & Safety, Food Safety, and Quality standards.
This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically biased engineer who enjoys working in a busy FMCG environment where reliability, speed, and product quality are critical to business success.
    Key Responsibilities
As a Mechanical Bias Engineer, you will:
    * Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across food production machinery and site equipment to maximise plant reliability and minimise downtime.
    * Diagnose, fault-find, and repair mechanical issues quickly to support continuous production.
    * Carry out mechanical fitting, fabrication, welding, and component replacement to a high standard.
    * Maintain and repair conveyors, pumps, motors, bearings, gearboxes, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and other food processing equipment.
    * Respond rapidly to production breakdowns, ensuring equipment is returned to service safely and efficiently.
    * Support engineering improvement projects to increase equipment reliability, improve production performance, and reduce maintenance costs.
    * Ensure all engineering work complies with Health & Safety legislation, Food Safety regulations, HACCP principles, and company Quality standards.
    * Accurately complete maintenance records, PPM documentation, handover reports, and machine history using the Pirana Maintenance Management System.
    * Work closely with Production, Technical, and Hygiene teams to minimise disruption while maintaining food safety and production targets.
    * Identify recurring equipment failures and recommend permanent engineering solutions to improve reliability and reduce downtime.
    * Maintain excellent housekeeping standards within engineering workshops and production areas, adhering to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) requirements.
    * Assist with machinery installations, upgrades, and continuous improvement initiatives across the site.
    About You
We're looking for someone who has:
    * A recognised Mechanical Engineering qualification (or equivalent experience).
    * Previous maintenance engineering experience within a food manufacturing, FMCG, or high-volume production environment.
    * Strong mechanical fault-finding, fitting, and maintenance experience on food production or industrial processing equipment.
    * Welding and fabrication experience.
    * Experience maintaining conveyors, pumps, motors, bearings, gearboxes, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
    * A good understanding of food manufacturing standards, including HACCP, GMP, and Health & Safety requirements.
    * Basic electrical fault-finding skills (desirable but not essential).
    * Experience using a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS), ideally Pirana.
    * Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritise workload in a fast-paced production environment.
    * A proactive approach to preventative maintenance and continuous improvement.
    * Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a multi-skilled engineering team.
    What We Offer
    * 4 on, 4 off day shift pattern (6:00am – 6:00pm).
    * The opportunity to join a well-established and growing food manufacturing business.
    * A supportive engineering team with a strong focus on safety, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
    * Ongoing training and development opportunities to support your career progression.
    * A varied, hands-on role where you'll make a direct impact on production performance, equipment reliability, and business success.
If you're a mechanically biased maintenance engineer with experience in food manufacturing or FMCG and enjoy working in a fast-paced production environment, we'd love to hear from you. Join us and help keep our production lines running safely, efficiently, and at peak performance every day
