How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Commercial Manager

    Commercial Manager

    An excellent opportunity has become available for an experienced Commercial Manager to join a successful civil engineering contractor delivering infrastructure, utilities, and earthworks projects throughout Scotland.

    The successful Commercial Manager will lead the commercial function across a diverse portfolio of civil engineering projects, ensuring commercial performance, profitability and contractual compliance. The Commercial Manager will work closely with senior leadership, operational teams and clients to drive business performance while developing and mentoring the commercial team.

    This role is ideal for an ambitious Commercial Manager looking to take ownership of major projects and contribute to the continued growth of a well-established contractor.

    Key Responsibilities

    Lead the commercial management of multiple civil engineering projects.

    Oversee Quantity Surveyors and support their professional development.

    Ensure robust commercial controls are implemented across all projects.

    Prepare and review monthly cost reports, forecasts and CVRs.

    Manage client relationships and commercial negotiations.

    Oversee subcontract procurement and contract administration.

    Negotiate and agree variations, compensation events and final accounts.

    Ensure compliance with NEC and other forms of contract.

    Identify commercial risks and implement mitigation strategies.

    Work collaboratively with operational teams to maximise profitability.

    Support tender reviews and pre-construction activities.

    Provide commercial reporting to senior management.

    Requirements

    Essential

    Previous experience as a Commercial Manager within civil engineering.

    Extensive knowledge of NEC contracts.

    Strong leadership and team management experience.

    Excellent commercial awareness and financial management skills.

    Proven ability to manage large infrastructure or utilities projects.

    Strong communication and negotiation skills.

    Full UK Driving Licence.

    Desirable

    Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or Civil Engineering.

    MRICS or equivalent professional membership.

    Experience managing commercial teams across multiple projects.
