About the Role
As a Technical Support Officer within the Street Works team, you will play an important role in supporting the safe and efficient operation of Surrey's highway network. The role combines customer service and financial administration, requiring you to respond to enquiries from residents, utility companies and colleagues about street works, traffic disruption, permits and associated charges. You will review and process highway works information, raise invoices, maintain accurate records and ensure charges are correctly applied, while providing clear, timely information and resolving queries professionally.
Working in a busy and supportive team, you will help ensure street works information is accurate, compliant and effectively communicated. Success in the role requires strong attention to detail, excellent customer service and the ability to work collaboratively in a continually evolving environment. Through effective record-keeping, problem-solving and customer engagement, you will help reduce complaints, support compliance and maintain positive relationships with residents, works promoters and internal stakeholders.
Over the next 12-18 months, you will also support business continuity during Local Government Reorganisation, as Surrey County Council transitions to East Surrey Council and West Surrey Council. You will help maintain consistent processes, accurate data and clear communication across systems, supporting service quality and customer confidence during this period of change.
