How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Site Engineer

Specialist Bridge Inspection & Maintenance (SBIM)

    The Opportunity

Our client has an excellent opportunity for a Site Engineer to join their Specialist Bridge Inspection & Maintenance (SBIM) team, supporting the maintenance of some of the UK's most significant highway structures.

Working across the M48 Severn Bridge, M4 Prince of Wales Bridge and M5 Avonmouth Bridge, you'll play a key role in the safe delivery of bridge inspections, maintenance, renewals and improvement works. You'll provide essential engineering support to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on programme and to the highest quality standards.

Working alongside experienced engineers, operational teams, subcontractors and National Highways, you'll gain exposure to a wide variety of technically challenging projects while developing your career within one of the UK's leading bridge maintenance environments.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Site Engineer with experience in highways, structures or civil engineering maintenance who is looking to further develop their technical and project delivery expertise.

    Key Responsibilities

As Site Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the successful delivery of bridge maintenance and improvement works by:

    * Providing day-to-day engineering support across bridge maintenance, renewal and improvement schemes.

    * Supporting the Section Engineer with the planning and delivery of allocated work packages.

    * Undertaking engineering surveys, site measurements, setting out, defect verification and evidence capture.

    * Coordinating daily site activities with supervisors, operatives and specialist subcontractors.

    * Assisting with the implementation of RAMS, permits, site briefings and safe systems of work.

    * Carrying out quality assurance activities including inspections, material verification, snagging and close-out processes.

    * Maintaining accurate site records, including site diaries, photographs, inspection reports, test results, as-built information and handover documentation.

    * Coordinating traffic management interfaces, temporary works, specialist access systems and subcontractor activities.

    * Monitoring progress on site, identifying risks and constraints, and providing regular updates to the project team.

    * Promoting a positive health, safety and environmental culture across all site activities.

    * Supporting continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality, efficiency and operational performance.

    * Ensuring all works are delivered in accordance with engineering specifications, programme requirements and contractual standards.

    What We're Looking For

    Essential

    * HNC, HND, Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline, or demonstrable equivalent industry experience.

    * Valid CSCS Card (or equivalent).

    * Experience working within civil engineering, highways, structures or bridge maintenance.

    * Previous experience supporting the delivery of site-based engineering projects.

    * Experience coordinating subcontractors and supporting operational delivery.

    * Ability to undertake engineering surveys, inspections, measurements and defect identification.

    * Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.

    * Strong organisational, planning and communication skills.

    * Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and digital site reporting systems.

    * Understanding of site engineering procedures, quality assurance and inspection processes.

    Desirable

    * SSSTS or SMSTS qualification.

    * Experience working on bridge structures or within live highway environments.

    * Knowledge of temporary works, permit systems, traffic management and specialist access methods.

    * Understanding of bridge maintenance techniques, common structural defects and repair methodologies.

    * Previous experience supporting bridge inspection, maintenance or renewal projects on the strategic road network.
