How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

NMS Recruit are seeking someone with strong knowledge and experience in electricity distribution network reliability to help shape the build of products. You'll work alongside Product Managers and Engineering teams to make sure the products solve real problems faced by network operators. You'll use your operational knowledge to help define customer problems, guide solution design and influence technical direction from an early stage.

This isn't a software engineering or product management role. Instead, you'll act as the domain expert, bringing practical industry experience to product discovery, solution design and customer engagement.

    What you'll be doing
    • Work with Product Managers to understand customer challenges and turn them into clear problem statements and product opportunities.
    • Help design end-to-end solutions that work across software, data, analytics and operational processes.
    • Ensure proposed solutions are practical, technically feasible and aligned with operational, regulatory and safety requirements.
    • Support strategic customer engagements by providing technical expertise and helping shape solution approaches.
    • Identify emerging industry trends, regulatory changes and operational challenges that should influence our products.
    • Provide trusted technical guidance to customers, Product teams and Engineering.

    What success looks like
    • Help Product teams clearly define customer problems before development begins.
    • Reduce costly redesign by identifying operational or regulatory issues early.
    • Improve consistency across products by encouraging joined-up thinking.
    • Build confidence with customers through your technical expertise.
    • Influence product and technical decisions using your industry knowledge.

    Essential Experience
    • Strong expertise in electricity distribution network reliability or a closely related area.
    • Experience working within, or closely with, electricity network operators or regulated utility organisations.
    • A good understanding of distribution network operations and the challenges they face.
    • Experience contributing to complex technical solutions involving operational systems, software, data or analytics.
    • Experience influencing technical or product decisions through structured analysis and industry expertise.

    Essential Knowledge

Strong systems thinking and the ability to understand how people, processes and technology work together.• Ability to simplify complex operational problems into clear, actionable solutions.
    • Confidence communicating with engineers, product teams and senior customer stakeholders.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    Qualifications
    • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

    Desirable experience
It would be beneficial if you have experience of:
    • Working across different utility regulatory environments.
    • Supporting strategic bids or large infrastructure programmes.
    • Analytics, AI or digital decision-support tools for electricity networks.
    • Product discovery or solution design within hardware and software environments.

    What you'll bring
    We're looking for someone who:
    • Thinks about problems from a whole-system perspective.
    • Balances technical excellence with practical delivery.
    • Builds trusted relationships across Product, Engineering and Commercial teams.
    • Is naturally curious about the future of electricity networks and grid-edge technologies.
    • Brings sound judgement and credibility when working with customers and colleagues.

    Benefits

    Salary £60,000 - £80,000 DOE
    Hybrid working
Holidays: 25 days of annual leave, plus bank holidays, with an extra day for every three years completed (up to a maximum of 30 days). Ability to buy an additional 5 days.
Pension contributions of 8% from the employer (or cash equivalent).
Comprehensive benefits, including Group Life Insurance, Income Protection, and Critical Illness cover (or cash equivalents).
Private Medical Insurance (single cover or cash equivalent).
