How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Mental Health Mentor – Specialist SEND Provision

    Location: Upper Norwood
    Start Date: September 2026
    Contract: Full-Time

Are you passionate about supporting children with mental health difficulties and additional needs? Do you have the patience, empathy, resilience, and dedication to help young people overcome barriers and thrive?

TeacherActive is proud to be working with a specialist provision within a primary school in Upper Norwood, who are looking to appoint a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Mentor to join their team.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an improving school that is looking for hardworking, committed, and dedicated individuals who are passionate about making a genuine difference. The school is continuing to develop and grow, and is seeking team members who are willing to go the extra mile to support its pupils and contribute positively to the wider school community.

The successful candidate will work closely with pupils who require specialist support with their emotional wellbeing, mental health, behaviour, and engagement in education. You will provide consistent 1:1 and small-group support, helping pupils develop emotional regulation, confidence, independence, and positive coping strategies.

Personal care is required as part of this role.

The successful Mental Health Mentor will have:

Experience supporting children or young people with mental health difficulties, SEMH, SEND, or challenging behaviour
A calm, patient, and nurturing approach
The ability to build strong, trusting relationships with vulnerable pupils
Experience supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour
A genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning
Confidence providing personal care when required
A hardworking, resilient, and dedicated attitude
    Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Experience within a school or specialist setting is desirable but not essential. We are particularly keen to hear from candidates with experience in mental health, care, youth work, support work, counselling, psychology, or similar settings.

    In return, you will receive:

    Competitive rates of pay
A rewarding role supporting vulnerable children
Ongoing support from a dedicated TeacherActive consultant
Access to professional development and CPD opportunities
The opportunity to join an improving school and make a real difference
A supportive environment where dedicated staff can grow and develop
If you are hardworking, resilient, and passionate about supporting children with mental health difficulties, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

Please contact Abbie Newton-Smith on (phone number removed) or email for more information.

All applicants will be contacted to discuss suitability and then invited to register with TeacherActive. Registration involves an enhanced DBS check, identity checks, and professional references.
