How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Software Engineering Team Lead

Location: Bristol, UK (Hybrid - 2 days in-office per week)

    Position Type: Full-time, Permanent

Package: £55,000 - £65,000 + Premium Benefits Package (including Private Healthcare, Income Protection, Life Assurance, and 25 Days Holiday)

    The Opportunity: Tech for Good

Are you an experienced technical leader looking to channel your engineering skills into software that genuinely improves human lives?

Our client is a highly successful, mission-driven organization dedicated to developing impactful software solutions used by people across the globe. They build multi-platform desktop and mobile applications designed to make a real difference in society.

They are currently expanding their R&D function and are seeking a Software Engineering Team Lead to guide a high-performing, cross-functional engineering squad. This is an exceptional opportunity to balance complex technical architecture with a rewarding, purposeful mission.

The Role: Balancing Code, Delivery, and Leadership

In this position, you will remain close to the technology while stepping into a pivotal leadership role. You will head a structured sprint team comprising 5 developers and a dedicated QA professional.

Our client aims for an ideal split of roughly 30% to 50% hands-on engineering, ensuring you maintain high technical standards while guiding the team's delivery and growth. Supported by internal Product and UX specialists, your responsibilities will focus on three key areas:

Technical Stewardship: Writing clean, scalable, cross-platform C# (.NET) code, championing automated testing, and driving modern architectural practices.
Agile Delivery: Serving as the delivery lead or scrum master for your team, coordinating sprint planning, and managing the release lifecycle.
People Management: Conducting fortnightly 1:1s, managing performance reviews, setting objectives, and fostering an inclusive, supportive environment.

What Our Client Is Looking For

They are seeking a highly motivated self-starter who values user outcomes just as much as technical excellence.

    Core Requirements:

Team Leadership: Prior experience in a formal software team lead role, including direct line management (1:1s, performance reviews, and appraisals).
Agile Methodology: A strong background leading effective agile/scrum teams and managing iterative software delivery cycles.
Technical Expertise: 5+ years of professional software development experience utilizing a robust object-oriented language, ideally modern C# (or a strong Java/C++ background with a desire to work in .NET).
Testing Advocacy: High confidence in automated testing practices-from unit tests to integration testing-with the ability to safely refactor existing codebases.
Modern Engineering Tools: Experience utilizing or rolling out AI-assisted development tools within an engineering workflow to optimize team productivity.

    Desirable Skills:

Familiarity with cross-platform UI frameworks (e.g., Avalonia, WPF/XAML) or cloud environments.

Experience managing build configurations and continuous integration pipelines.

    Why Apply?

A Culture of Collaboration: Our client values face-to-face team synergy. The wider engineering department collaborates in their Bristol office every Wednesday, with your specific squad selecting a second day to align in person.
Forward-Thinking Environment: They heavily invest in their people's future. Engineering leadership actively encourages exploring cutting-edge AI coding tools to keep their developers ahead of the industry curve.
Outstanding Perks: Beyond standard corporate perks, they offer a vibrant social culture, strong wellness initiatives, EV salary sacrifice schemes, and a deep corporate commitment to sustainability and equality.

Our client is an equal opportunity employer committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace.

To Apply: Please submit your CV along with a brief outline of your experience leading agile software teams and your motivation for joining a purpose-led engineering environment
