How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Job Title: Life Skills Tutor

    Salary: £25,000 - £32,000

    Location: Basildon

    What are we looking for?

    Our client is looking for a passionate and creative tutor to develop our SEND learners in the areas of life skills and work skills. These two areas form part of their 16–19 study programme that enables them to gain the skills, experience, and qualifications to progress.

    As a Life Skills Tutor, you will be responsible for planning, teaching and organising events and trips that enable SEND learners to develop their confidence and skills for life and work. You will plan the curriculum with your colleagues, ensuring the qualifications and enrichment activities are of high quality, enabling learners to be successful.

    The Life Skills Tutor will work with individuals who may present challenges, your delivery will be creative and engaging to ensure learners achieve their aims in all subjects. You will be supported by a Centre Manager and Quality Team, who are responsible for leading the team, driving up quality, and promoting an ethos of continuous improvement.

    This role requires face-to-face delivery and the organisation of events and trips to ensure learners gain insight and new experiences that enable them to learn and increase their skills.

    Qualifications & Experience

    * Qualified to PTLLS/DTLLS/Cert Ed/PGCE (Essential), or willing to work towards a teaching qualification.

    * SEN qualification (Desirable).

    * Experience of teaching learners with various abilities or learning needs (Essential).

    * Assessor qualification.

    * GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above, or Functional Skills Level 2 (Essential).

    * Experience working with learners who have learning differences (Essential).

    * Confident in delivering engaging learning sessions (Essential).

    * Knowledge of EHCPs (Desirable).

    As a Life Skills Tutor, you will be responsible for the quality of education through effective planning and delivery, as well as differentiating lesson activities and resources to meet individual learner needs. You will ensure work is marked, records are maintained, and assessment is ongoing. You will monitor learner progress throughout the year, preparing portfolios of evidence that demonstrate achievement against assessment criteria while maintaining high success and pass rates.

    Main Tasks & Responsibilities

    Teaching, Learning and Assessment

    * Plan, prepare and deliver lessons on Independence Skills and Personal, Social and Emotional Development.

    * Create engaging schemes of work that demonstrate clear sequencing and progression.

    * Deliver engaging, high-quality learning experiences.

    * Plan for learners' needs using initial assessment, previous learning and EHCPs.

    * Differentiate lesson plans and resources in line with learner needs identified through EHCPs or observations.

    * Track learner progress using the appropriate tracking systems.

    * Deliver engaging sessions that meet the individual needs of all learners.

    * Develop SMART learning plans for individual learners and monitor progress against EHCP outcomes.

    * Monitor, assess and report on learner progress, ensuring timely achievement throughout the year in line with assessment policies and the principles of Assessment for Learning.

    * Undertake pastoral responsibilities as required.

    * Conduct one-to-one learner progress reviews.

    * Manage behaviour issues in line with organisational policy, with support from the Centre Manager.

    * Implement inclusion and equal opportunities policies.

    * Ensure Learning Support Assistants and visiting speakers are used effectively within the learning environment.

    * Cover other subject areas where appropriate.

    * Organise and deliver educational trips and enrichment events.

    * Provide appropriate encouragement, guidance and support to help learners achieve their goals.

    * Participate in events and open days as required.

    * Participate in quality reviews.
