How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

Shillito Group is recruiting on behalf of an international manufacturing business for an experienced Permit Issuer to join their Engineering team on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with Permit to Work (PTW) experience to play a key role in ensuring the safe delivery of maintenance activities and engineering projects across a complex, safety-critical manufacturing environment.

If you have a strong understanding of health & safety, isolations, RAMS and permit coordination, we'd love to hear from you.

    The Role

As Permit Issuer, you'll be responsible for authorising, coordinating and controlling Permit to Work activities across the Machine Shops, Work Rolls and Forge areas. You'll work closely with Engineering, Production and Project teams to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and in line with company procedures.

No two days will be the same, and you'll become a vital part of maintaining safe operations across one of the UK's leading engineering facilities.

    Key Responsibilities

Authorise, issue and manage Permit to Work documentation for maintenance and project activities.
Control equipment isolations and coordinate simultaneous permitted works.
Ensure RAMS, atmospheric testing and rescue arrangements are in place before work begins.
Monitor active work sites to ensure compliance with permit conditions.
Maintain and audit the live Permit to Work system, ensuring permits are correctly closed, renewed or cancelled.
Coordinate with Engineering, Production and Project teams to plan safe execution of work.
Support engineering activities through spares procurement, receipting and inventory management.
Lead permit coordination meetings and provide guidance and mentoring to colleagues where required.

    About You

You'll have experience working within a heavy industrial, manufacturing or engineering environment and be confident managing Permit to Work systems in safety-critical operations.

    Essential

Permit to Work trained with practical Permit to Work experience.
Strong understanding of health & safety legislation and safe systems of work.
Experience reviewing RAMS, confined space controls and atmospheric testing requirements.
Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
Excellent communication and organisational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple activities.

    Desirable

    Engineering apprenticeship or engineering background.
NEBOSH General Certificate or IOSH Managing Safely.
Experience within steel manufacturing, heavy engineering or similar industrial environments.

    What's on Offer?

    £35,000 salary
    12-month fixed-term contract
    Monday-Friday working hours (07:45-16:00)
Opportunity to work for one of the UK's leading engineering manufacturers
Be part of a highly skilled team delivering critical maintenance and engineering projects
A varied and rewarding role where safety is at the heart of everything you do
