How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

This role is perfect for individuals with a Level 1 BSL qualification or higher, who have a strong commitment to supporting students with hearing impairments or additional communication needs. As a BSL Teaching Assistant, you will be responsible for assisting teachers in delivering engaging lessons and providing one-on-one support to students, ensuring they have full access to the curriculum and a positive learning experience.

    Key Responsibilities:

Supporting Students: Work closely with students who use British Sign Language, helping them access the curriculum, communicate effectively, and participate fully in classroom activities.

Classroom Assistance: Provide general classroom support to teachers, including helping with lesson preparation, delivering small group activities, and supporting individual students as required.

Communication: Use BSL to interpret and support communication between students and staff, ensuring students' needs are met effectively.

Student Welfare: Foster an inclusive environment, supporting the emotional and social development of students, encouraging independence and confidence.

Collaboration: Work as part of a team with teachers and other support staff, ensuring that the learning environment is safe, supportive, and engaging for all students.

    Essential Skills and Qualifications:

BSL Qualification: Minimum Level 1 BSL qualification, with a willingness to continue development if required.

Experience: Previous experience working with students with hearing impairments, additional needs, or in a similar support role is desirable but not essential.

Communication Skills: Strong communication skills, with the ability to use British Sign Language to support learning and communication.

Patience and Empathy: A compassionate, patient, and understanding approach to supporting students' individual needs.

Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other staff members in a fast-paced school environment.

Flexibility: Comfortable with daily and long-term supply work, adapting to new classrooms and teaching environments as needed.

    Desirable Skills:

BSL Level 1 or Higher: A Level 2 BSL qualification or higher would be an advantage.

Special Educational Needs (SEN) Experience: Experience working with students who have additional learning needs is highly desirable.

Positive Behaviour Support: Understanding of strategies for supporting positive behavior in the classroom.

    Why Work With Us?

Supportive Environment: Join a friendly and inclusive school community where everyone is committed to supporting the needs of our students.

Professional Development: Opportunities for ongoing professional development and further BSL training.

Flexibility: Enjoy the flexibility of supply teaching with the possibility of long-term, consistent work.

Impactful Role: Make a positive difference in the lives of students by helping them overcome communication barriers and succeed academically.

    How to Apply:

If you are passionate about supporting students and have the skills and experience to excel in this role, we would love to hear from you.
