How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

In addition to your basic salary, there is plenty of overtime available, paid at enhanced rates of 1.5x and 2x pay, giving you the opportunity to significantly increase your annual earnings.

    What's in it for You?

    Starting salary of £27,000
    Structured 12 month training programme

    Monday to Friday working pattern
Opportunity to build a long term career within the rail sector
Learn valuable mechanical, fabrication and fault finding skills from experienced engineers
Clear progression pathway within a specialist engineering environment

    The Role

As a Mechanical Fitter, you'll be responsible for repairing, maintaining, and refurbishing rail freight vehicles to the highest safety and quality standards.

This is a physically demanding, hands on role that will involve working underneath rail wagons, manual handling, loading and unloading equipment, and occasional work at height. You'll gain experience across a wide range of engineering activities including mechanical fitting, welding, grinding, fabrication, brake testing, fault finding, gauging, and general wagon maintenance.

    Key Responsibilities

Repair, maintain, and refurbish railway freight vehicles and company assets
Carry out rail vehicle inspections, fault finding, and modifications
Complete damage repairs across a variety of freight wagons
Support planned maintenance activities to ensure fleet availability

Are eager to learn and develop through a structured training programme
Have a positive attitude and strong work ethic
Can follow instructions and work safely in a busy workshop environment
Want to build a long term career within engineering and rail

    Essential Requirements

    Full UK Driving Licence
Ability to pass a pre employment medical
Ability to pass Drugs & Alcohol screening
Ability to obtain a DBS check
Comfortable working in a physically demanding environment

Ready to Kickstart Your Engineering Career?

If you're looking for a hands on role where you'll be paid to learn, develop specialist engineering skills, and build a long term career within the rail industry, we'd love to hear from you.

With a structured 12 month training programme, salary increases at both the 6 and 12 month milestones, and regular overtime paid at enhanced rates of up to double time, this is a fantastic opportunity to rapidly increase both your skills and earning potential.
