How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Lead Frontend Developer (React / TypeScript / Node.js)

    Leicester (Relocation Support Available)
    3 days per week in the office (Tuesday, Thursday & Friday)
    £60,000 - £73,000 + 10-12% Bonus | No Sponsorship Available

    VIQU have partnered with a global eCommerce organisation that delivers a high-traffic digital platform used by millions of customers worldwide. As they continue to invest in their technology function, they're looking for a Lead Frontend Developer to provide technical leadership across a business-critical engineering team.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a senior engineer looking to shape technical direction without moving into line management. You'll lead by example, driving engineering standards, reviewing code, mentoring developers and helping deliver a modern, scalable frontend platform.

    You'll work within an Agile team focused on enhancing a customer-facing eCommerce platform, influencing architectural decisions and ensuring the team continues to deliver high-quality, performant software.

    Key Responsibilities

    Provide technical leadership across the frontend engineering team.
    Set coding standards and champion engineering best practices.
    Lead code reviews and mentor developers to improve quality and consistency.
    Design, build and enhance a high-performance eCommerce platform serving millions of users.
    Collaborate with Product, Delivery and Engineering teams to influence technical direction.
    Drive continuous improvement across development processes and tooling.
    Participate in an on-call rota during peak trading periods.

    Requirements

    Strong commercial experience with React, TypeScript and modern JavaScript.
    Experience developing high-traffic, customer-facing web applications, ideally within eCommerce.
    Strong Node.js experience.
    Previous technical leadership experience through mentoring, code reviews and setting development standards.
    Solid understanding of frontend performance optimisation and responsive design.
    Experience working within Agile development teams.
    Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
