How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Senior Quantity Surveyor – Highways Maintenance
    Chester, Cheshire / Hybrid Working
Up to £70,000 + Car or Car Allowance + Bonus and Benefits
Permanent | 40 Hours per Week
    The Opportunity
An established UK infrastructure and highways business is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to support a major long-term highways asset maintenance contract across Cheshire West and Chester.
This is a key commercial position offering responsibility for a varied portfolio of highways maintenance and improvement schemes. You’ll work closely with the operational and commercial teams, taking ownership of cost management, change control, claims and final accounts throughout the contract lifecycle.
The position would suit a commercially confident Senior Quantity Surveyor with NEC contract experience and a background in highways, civil engineering or infrastructure maintenance. Experience of resolving historic claims and bringing accounts to an efficient commercial close would be particularly valuable.
The role offers hybrid working, typically involving approximately three days per week from the Chester office or across the contract, with flexibility for home working during the remainder of the week.
    Salary and Benefits
    *
Salary up to £70,000, depending on experience
    *
    Company car or car allowance
    *
Discretionary annual bonus of up to 10%
    *
25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays
    *
    Contributory pension scheme
    *
Life assurance at four times basic salary
    *
    Hybrid working
    *
Ongoing professional development and career progression
    The Role
As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you’ll provide commercial leadership across the contract from pre-construction and procurement through to delivery and final account.
    Your responsibilities will include:
    *
Managing budgets, forecasts, cash flow and commercial reporting
    *
Identifying and controlling commercial risks and opportunities
    *
Managing change, compensation events and contractual notices
    *
Preparing, negotiating and closing claims and final accounts
    *
Supporting procurement and the commercial management of subcontractors
    *
Ensuring accurate cost capture and robust financial controls
    *
Providing commercial advice to operational and senior management teams
    *
Supporting and mentoring junior members of the commercial team
    About You
    You’ll ideally have:
    *
Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor or experienced Quantity Surveyor
    *
A background in highways maintenance, highways construction, civil engineering or infrastructure
    *
Good working knowledge of NEC contracts
    *
Experience managing claims, compensation events and final accounts
    *
Strong commercial reporting, forecasting and cost-management skills
    *
A degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
    *
The ability to work collaboratively with operational teams, clients and supply-chain partners
Professional membership of RICS, CIOB or ICES would be beneficial but isn’t essential.
You’ll need to live within a reasonable commuting distance of Chester and be comfortable attending the office or contract locations approximately three days per week. Candidates available at short notice are particularly encouraged to apply.
    Why Apply?
This is an opportunity to join a respected, people-focused infrastructure business with a strong presence across the UK highways sector. You’ll work on an important long-term asset maintenance contract, with genuine responsibility, visibility and scope to develop your career further.
Interviews are being arranged via Microsoft Teams initially. If you’re an experienced Quantity Surveyor with highways or infrastructure experience, please apply with your current CV for a confidential discussion
