How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Assistant Design Manager

    Location: Reading (with travel across the South of England)
    Salary: £35,000 - £50,000 + Package
    Working Pattern: Hybrid – 1 day per week from home

    About the Role

    An established and highly respected main contractor is looking to appoint an Assistant Design Manager to join its growing team based in near Reading.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a design professional looking to develop their career within a business that delivers a diverse range of projects across multiple sectors. You will work alongside experienced Design Managers and project teams, supporting the design process from tender and pre-construction through to construction and project completion.

    The role offers exposure to a wide variety of projects, including:

    * Education

    * Scientific and laboratory facilities

    * Industrial, warehouses and studios

    * Build-to-Rent residential developments

    No specific sector experience is required. We are looking for someone with a solid foundation in design management who is adaptable, proactive and keen to broaden their experience across different project types.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Support the management and coordination of the design process across multiple projects.

    * Assist in reviewing and managing consultant and subcontractor design information.

    * Help ensure design information is delivered in line with programme requirements.

    * Attend and contribute to design team meetings.

    * Work closely with project, commercial and construction teams.

    * Assist during tender and pre-construction stages, including design reviews and value engineering exercises.

    * Monitor design progress and identify potential risks or clashes.

    * Support the delivery of compliant, buildable and cost-effective design solutions.

    Requirements

    * Minimum 2-3 years' experience within a design management role, such as:

    * Assistant Design Manager

    * Junior Design Manager

    * Graduate Design Manager

    * Experience working within the construction industry.

    * Understanding of the design process from pre-construction through to project delivery.

    * Strong communication and organisational skills.

    * Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

    * Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites across the South of England.

    Travel Requirements

    The role is based from the company's Reading office, with regular travel to sites and project offices across the South of England, including areas such as:

    * Oxford and surrounding areas

    * Southampton and the South Coast

    * South and West London

    All projects are within a reasonable travelling distance and overnight stays are not expected.
