How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Associate Civil Engineer
    Bristol

Ready to step into a role where you'll influence projects, mentor engineers and help shape the future of an established Civil Engineering team?

This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced Chartered Civil Engineer looking to move into a genuine leadership position within one of the world's leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancies. With a strong pipeline of secured work already in place and continued investment across the South West, you'll inherit a busy portfolio of projects while playing a key role in the continued growth of the Bristol team.

This is far more than a technical delivery role. You'll become a recognised leader within the office, helping to develop people, strengthen client relationships and influence how projects are delivered across the region. With the backing of an experienced senior leadership team, this role offers a clear route towards higher leadership responsibilities whilst allowing you to remain technically involved in the work you enjoy.

Working alongside planners, transport planners, structural engineers, environmental specialists and other multidisciplinary teams, you'll lead the design and delivery of infrastructure solutions across a diverse portfolio including residential developments, commercial schemes, mixed-use regeneration projects, education, healthcare, industrial and public sector developments.

You'll take ownership of projects from initial feasibility through planning and detailed design to technical approvals and construction support, ensuring quality, programme and commercial objectives are consistently achieved.

As one of the senior technical figures within the office, you'll oversee highways and drainage design, mentor engineers at all levels, review technical outputs and provide guidance on complex engineering challenges while continuing to build long-term relationships with both new and existing clients.

    The role will include:

Leading the design and delivery of highways, drainage and development infrastructure schemes from concept through to construction.
Managing multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining exceptional technical standards.
Producing and reviewing detailed engineering designs using Civil 3D together with industry standard drainage software.
Delivering adoptable highways and drainage designs including S38, S278, S104, S106 and S185 agreements together with SuDS strategies, flood risk considerations, earthworks and external works design.
Coordinating multidisciplinary design teams to deliver integrated engineering solutions.
Managing project programmes, commercial performance and technical quality.
Acting as the technical lead on major commissions whilst providing support across wider regional projects.
Developing strong relationships with clients, local authorities, contractors and other project stakeholders.
Mentoring Chartered Engineers, graduates and apprentices whilst supporting professional development across the team.
Supporting business development activities, client presentations and framework opportunities.
We're looking for someone who has:

Chartered Engineer status (ICE or equivalent).
Significant UK consultancy experience delivering civil infrastructure projects.
Strong highways and drainage design experience within development infrastructure.
Excellent working knowledge of Civil 3D together with drainage design software such as InfoDrainage, MicroDrainage or Causeway Flow.
    Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams.
Strong understanding of UK design standards and approval processes.
Commercial awareness with experience managing project budgets and programmes.
Excellent communication skills and the confidence to build lasting client relationships.
A genuine passion for mentoring and developing the next generation of engineers.
This is a business that combines the resources, technical capability and project diversity of a global consultancy with the culture and autonomy often associated with a much smaller practice. You'll work on nationally significant developments alongside local regeneration projects, supported by experts across multiple engineering disciplines while maintaining real influence over the work delivered from the Bristol office.

If you're looking for a position where you can continue delivering technically challenging projects whilst progressing into a genuine leadership role, this offers an exceptional platform to do exactly that.
