How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Interim Assistant Director, Building Control
    Ealing Council. Perceval House, Ealing
    6 Months Initial Contract
    £700-£800 per day (Inside of scope of IR35)

    Adecco is working in partnership with Ealing Council to recruit an Interim Assistant Director, Building Control.

    This is a high-profile interim leadership opportunity for an experienced Building Control professional to lead Ealing Council's Building Control Service during a period of significant legislative and regulatory change.

    Reporting to the Strategic Director for Economy & Sustainability, you will provide both strategic and operational leadership across all Building Control functions, ensuring compliance with the Building Regulations, Building Safety Act, Fire Safety legislation and associated regulatory requirements, whilst delivering a customer-focused, commercially aware and high-performing service.

    You will be responsible for leading the Council's Building Control team, driving service improvement, supporting organisational objectives, maintaining public safety standards and developing strong partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Lead and manage the Council's Building Control Service, ensuring effective day-to-day delivery across all statutory functions.
    Ensure compliance with Building Regulations, Building Safety legislation and associated regulatory requirements.
    Oversee the inspection and regulation of high-rise and higher-risk buildings in line with the Building Safety Act.
    Support the Building Safety Regulator and work collaboratively with regulatory partners including the Health & Safety Executive and London Fire Brigade.
    Drive service improvement, performance management and customer satisfaction initiatives.
    Develop and implement strategies to maximise service income and increase market share within a competitive Building Control environment.
    Manage budgets, financial performance, fees and charging structures, ensuring a sustainable and efficient service.

    About You

    We are looking for a proven Building Control leader who brings strong technical expertise, strategic vision and exceptional stakeholder management skills.

    You will be able to demonstrate:

    Significant senior management experience within a Building Control environment.
    Extensive knowledge of Building Regulations, Building Acts, Building Safety legislation, Fire Safety requirements and associated regulatory frameworks.
    Experience leading inspection, enforcement and compliance functions.
    A successful track record of managing income-generating and customer-focused services.
    Experience managing budgets, financial performance and service delivery targets.
    Strong leadership and people management skills, including managing multidisciplinary teams.
    Experience of driving service transformation and continuous improvement.
    Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with members, senior leaders, regulators, developers and residents.
    Strong commercial awareness and an ability to identify opportunities for service growth and innovation.

    Essential Qualifications

    Applicants must hold a recognised professional qualification such as:

    MRICS
    MCABE
    MICE
    MIStructE

    and possess full membership of an appropriate professional body relevant to Building Control practice.
