How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    JOB TITLE: 2 x Mechanical Fitters (Rolling Stock)
    JOB LOCATION: Cambridge, Cambridgeshire
    SALARY: £29.49 Per hour Umbrella or 22.07 P.A.Y.E.
    HOURS PER WEEK: 42 Hours per week (4 on 4 off)
    DURATION: 6 months +
    SHIFT PATTERN: 11 Hours permanent nights working a 4 on, 4 off roster including weekends and bank holidays

    We're proud to be supporting a leading Train Operator as they look for 2 new technicians at the Cambridge Depot

    Purpose of the role:
    * Deliver highest possible performance as a team member.
    * Deliver customer requirements in accordance with VMI instructions ensuring compliance at all times.
    * Working safely as an individual and as a Team Member.
    * Maintaining tooling and equipment.
    * Managing and fitting materials issued to you using best practice and company guidelines.
    * Maintaining a safe and efficient workplace.
    Main duties and responsibilities:
    Mechanical & Electrical overhaul of Rolling Stock to include:
    * Bogie overhaul, damage repair and engineering
    * Wheel set overhaul, repair and analysis
    * Bogie chassis, damage repair and clean
    * Gearbox overhaul, repair and analysis
    * Bogie and gearbox engineering / repair
    * Wheel exchange on wheel sets
    * Re-profiling of wheel sets and wheels
    * Bearing, axle and wheel mounting
    * TBU revision and replacement
    * Components and subassemblies overhaul repair and analysis
    * Re-engineering and production of spare parts
    Responsibilities
     Carry out tasks allocated to you in accordance with laid down VMI's and other specified documentation ensuring prompt and safe delivery of vehicles to the customer.
     Ensure efficient use of tools and materials to deliver services to the customer.
     Ensure all documentation/paperwork issued relating to the work being carried out is correct in the first instance and completed correctly and fully.
     Ensure all depot safety and protection systems are complied with; this includes protection of you and others and the wearing of PPE where appropriate to the area being worked in.
     Where necessary training and competency requirements have been met, operate plant and equipment as required to meet the needs of the business.
     Comply with company procedures in regard to the use of calibrated tools and equipment.
     Apply good housekeeping standards throughout the working environment.
     Ensure efficient communication within the Team and to the Team leader.
     Partake in briefings and safety tours.
     Attend training courses to develop your skill base on different types of rolling stock, plant and equipment when required by the company.
     Work in accordance with the material handling processes in respect of defective components ensuring any removed material, component is labelled correctly.
    Other duties
    * Working on site at other locations.
    * Assisting other departments where required.
    * Covering absence; sickness and annual leave

    PLEASE NOTE: All candidates must be able to complete and pass a drugs & alcohol test.

    Knowledge and experience

    You will be a highly self-motivated individual, able to work under your own initiative.
    You will possess excellent communication & interpersonal skills
    You will need extensive all-round knowledge of Mechanical Engineering
    You will ideally have knowledge of modern rolling stock systems
    You will ideally have experience of Train depot operations
