Reception Class 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant – Birmingham
A welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary school in Birmingham, rated 'Good' by Ofsted, is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a child within their Reception class on a full-time, long-term basis.
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference in a young child's educational journey while working within a supportive and positive school environment.
The Role
As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to a Reception-aged child with additional needs, helping them to access learning, develop communication skills and engage positively in school life.
The child is a happy and engaging pupil who is currently non-verbal. They can occasionally become very active, including running off or attempting to climb, therefore the successful candidate will need to be energetic, vigilant and confident in supporting a child who requires close supervision. The child is not physical and responds well to positive support and encouragement.
As Albanian is the child's home language and they understand some Albanian, the school would particularly welcome applications from candidates who can speak Albanian, although this is not essential.
Responsibilities
* Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a child in Reception.
* Support the child with classroom activities and daily routines.
* Build a positive, trusting relationship to support communication and engagement.
* Help to manage transitions and ensure the child's safety throughout the school day.
* Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider school staff.
* Monitor progress and contribute to the child's ongoing development and wellbeing.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
* Previous experience working with children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), ideally within a primary school setting.
* A calm, patient and nurturing approach.
* The ability to remain energetic and proactive throughout the school day.
* Strong communication and teamwork skills.
* An understanding of supporting children with communication difficulties or non-verbal pupils.
* The ability to speak Albanian would be highly advantageous, but is not essential.
* A genuine passion for supporting children to achieve their full potential.
The School
* Good-rated Ofsted primary school.
* Friendly and supportive leadership team.
* Inclusive and welcoming environment.
* Well-resourced setting with a strong focus on pupil wellbeing and development.
* Excellent opportunity to gain valuable SEN experience within a mainstream school.
