How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    We are seeking an experienced Structural Steel Site Engineer to join a major structural steel project in London. The successful candidate will be responsible for the accurate setting out of structural steelwork, verification of installed works, and production of high-quality as-built survey information throughout the construction programme.
    The role requires a proactive engineer with excellent surveying skills, a strong understanding of structural steel construction, and the ability to work independently while coordinating closely with site management, steel erection teams, and the client.

    Key Responsibilities

    Setting Out

    Carry out precise setting out for all structural steel elements including:
    Anchor bolts
    Base plates
    Steel columns
    Primary and secondary beams
    Bracing systems
    Edge protection and temporary works interfaces
    Establish and maintain primary and secondary control networks.
    Verify gridlines, levels and coordinates before steel erection.
    Carry out dimensional checks against approved construction drawings and BIM models.
    Ensure all works are completed within specified tolerances.

    Surveying & As-Built Information

    Perform as-built surveys of completed structural steel installations.
    Produce accurate as-built coordinate data and survey reports.
    Verify installed steelwork against design models and drawings.
    Identify and report any deviations from design tolerances.
    Support quality assurance documentation and handover records.

    Quality Assurance

    Complete inspection records and survey documentation.
    Ensure all survey data is traceable and accurately recorded.
    Maintain calibration records for surveying equipment.
    Assist with NCR investigations and corrective actions where required.
    Support project quality procedures and client inspections.

    Coordination

    Liaise with:
    Project Managers
    Site Managers
    Steel Erection Supervisors
    Temporary Works Coordinators
    Principal Contractor
    Design Engineers
    Survey Teams
    Attend coordination meetings as required.
    Assist with planning and sequencing of steel erection activities.

    Health & Safety

    Work in accordance with company Health & Safety procedures.
    Carry out work in compliance with RAMS.
    Participate in site safety briefings and toolbox talks.
    Ensure safe use of survey equipment around lifting operations.
    Promote a positive safety culture at all times.

    Essential Requirements

    Degree, HNC or HND in Civil Engineering, Surveying or related discipline.
    Minimum 5 years' experience setting out structural steel projects.
    Experience on major commercial, high-rise or infrastructure projects.
    Competent using Leica or Trimble Total Stations.
    Experience using:
    Leica Captivate
    Trimble Access
    AutoCAD
    LSS
    Excel
    Ability to read structural steel fabrication drawings and general arrangement drawings.
    Strong understanding of steel erection tolerances.
    CSCS Card (Engineering or Professionally Qualified).
    SMSTS or SSSTS (desirable).
    Full UK driving licence (preferred).

    Desirable Experience

    BIM coordination.
    Point cloud surveys.
    Robotic Total Stations.
    GNSS/GPS surveying.
    Laser scanning.
    Temporary works coordination.
    Experience working to National Structural Steelwork Specification (NSSS) requirements.

    Equipment (Required)

    The engineer may be required to provide and maintain their own calibrated surveying equipment including:

    Leica or Trimble Robotic Total Station
    Survey controller/data collector
    Tripods and prisms
    Calibration certificates
    Survey software licences

    Working Hours: 07:30am - 17:30pm
