How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

TPF Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a well established independent accountancy practice in Brighton with the recruitment of a Personal Tax Manager.

Our client is a highly regarded firm with around 40 members of staff, known for its friendly culture, collaborative environment and excellent staff retention. The firm operates from a bright, open plan office and promotes a supportive team atmosphere. Hybrid working is available, allowing up to two days per week from home.

This is a key hire for the firm and a unique opportunity for an experienced personal tax professional to take ownership of the entire personal tax portfolio, working closely with partners and a team of cross trained general practice accountants who assist with compliance work where required.

    The Role

As Personal Tax Manager, you will oversee the firm’s personal tax function, managing a varied portfolio of private clients while ensuring compliance deadlines are met and clients receive high quality tax advice. The role will combine hands on compliance work with advisory responsibilities and oversight of junior support where appropriate.

This position would suit someone who enjoys autonomy, responsibility and being a trusted point of contact for both clients and colleagues.

    Key Responsibilities

Preparing, completing and submitting self assessment tax returns for a varied portfolio including individuals, partnerships, landlords, estates, trusts and high net worth individuals.

Managing the day to day running of trusts, including maintaining trust cash books, dealing with trustee queries, calculating distributions, and preparing trust accounts and trust tax returns.

Calculating capital gains tax liabilities, including the preparation and submission of 60 day CGT returns where required.

Providing clients with guidance on residency, inheritance tax and capital gains tax matters, escalating complex advisory work to partners where necessary.

Acting as the primary point of contact for personal tax clients, maintaining regular communication and building strong long term relationships.

Managing work in progress levels and ensuring billing is kept up to date, working closely with partners to maintain efficient workflow.

Supporting and mentoring a junior member of staff, reviewing work where appropriate and providing technical guidance.

Liaising with the wider accounts team to ensure personal tax implications are considered in broader client matters.

Identifying potential tax planning opportunities and assisting with ad hoc advisory projects.

Keeping up to date with changes in personal tax legislation and HMRC guidance to ensure the firm remains compliant and clients receive proactive advice.

Supporting the partners in developing and improving internal personal tax processes and procedures.

    RequirementsAbout You

Experience working within a UK accountancy practice in a personal tax focused role.

A relevant professional qualification such as ATT, CTA or ACCA/ACA is essential.

Strong experience preparing self assessment tax returns and trust tax work.

Experience managing or supporting junior staff members.

Good knowledge of capital gains tax, inheritance tax and residency matters.

Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage your own workload and deadlines.

Confident communicator with the ability to build strong client relationships.
