How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Service & Test Engineer

    Location: Newbury, Berkshire
    Job Type: Permanent | Full-Time | 4-Day Working Week (Monday-Thursday)
    Salary: Circa £40,000

    Are you an electrically minded engineer with experience in testing, fault finding, and commissioning specialist equipment? Do you enjoy a varied role that combines hands-on engineering, customer support, and electrical design?

    We're working with an innovative engineering manufacturer that designs and builds bespoke laboratory and industrial testing equipment for customers around the world. This is an opportunity to join a close-knit engineering team where you'll be involved throughout the product lifecycle, from testing and commissioning new systems to supporting customers in the field.

    The Role

    Test, calibrate, and commission newly built specialist equipment prior to customer delivery.
    Diagnose and resolve electrical and mechanical faults remotely and during occasional site visits.
    Support customers with installation, servicing, commissioning, and technical troubleshooting.
    Design and modify electrical control systems, including low-voltage control circuits and motor control solutions.
    Produce and interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation.
    Maintain calibration records, test reports, and engineering documentation.
    Work closely with design and production teams to improve product performance and reliability.

    About You

    We're looking for someone with:

    Experience working with electrical control systems, power and signal electronics, or industrial machinery.
    Knowledge of motor drives, contactors, sensors, and control circuits.
    The ability to read and produce electrical drawings.
    Experience with testing, calibration, commissioning, or fault finding.
    Strong practical problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach.
    Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
    A full UK driving licence.Experience within special purpose machinery, automation, scientific instrumentation, laboratory equipment, or industrial machinery would be highly advantageous.
