How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job Title: Lecturer in English for Academic Purposes (HE)
    Location: Birmingham
    Salary: £25,681 - £28,792 per annum pro rata of £38,784 - £43,482 per annum - AC2
    Job type: Permanent - part time (24.50 hours per week)

    The Role:
    University College Birmingham is seeking to appoint up to 5 Lecturers in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) to support the delivery of Transnational Education (TNE) programmes delivered in partnership with international institutions.
    This role focuses on the planning, delivery and assessment of contextualised academic English provision for international students studying on UCB‑validated programmes overseas. The postholder will support students in developing the academic language and study skills required for successful progression into English‑medium higher education, ensuring consistency of standards and alignment with University expectations.
    The post is offered on a permanent, fractional basis, equivalent to 0.66 FTE, and includes allocated time for teaching, preparation, assessment and marking activity in support of TNE delivery.
    We are looking for committed and experienced EAP practitioners who have:
    * Experience teaching English for Academic Purposes in higher education
    * Experience supporting international students, ideally within online or transnational contexts
    * A DELTA or equivalent Level 7 teaching qualification
    * Strong digital literacy and confidence using online learning technologies
    * Excellent communication and organisational skills
    * A student-centred approach and commitment to high‑quality academic provision
    Experience of TNE delivery is desirable, but applicants with strong online EAP experience and interest in international education are encouraged to apply.
