How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Tradewind are working with a school based in the South-East area of Birmingham whoare looking for a caring, resilient and enthusiastic Family Support Worker or Pastoral Officer to join our team from September 2026.

    This is a rewarding role for someone who is passionate about supporting young people and helping them overcome barriers to learning. Working as part of our Inclusion team, you will support students who may be struggling with behaviour, attendance, emotional wellbeing or engagement in school.

    You will build positive relationships with students and their families, work closely with teachers and external agencies, and help develop strategies that enable every child to succeed.

    Key Responsibilities

    Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with behavioural, emotional or social needs.
    Build positive relationships with students who may be disengaged from learning or at risk of exclusion.
    Work closely with parents and carers to strengthen home-school partnerships.
    Carry out home visits where appropriate and support families in accessing relevant services.
    Develop and implement targeted intervention plans to improve behaviour, attendance and engagement.
    Liaise with external agencies including social care, Early Help, CAMHS and other support services.
    Support students during challenging situations, helping them develop emotional regulation and positive coping strategies.

    The Successful Candidate Will Have:

    Experience of working with children, young people and families in a school, youth work, social care or similar setting.
    Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
    The ability to remain calm, patient and resilient when working with students presenting challenging behaviour.
    A good understanding of safeguarding, child protection and confidentiality.
    Knowledge of behaviour management and restorative approaches would be an advantage.
    The ability to work independently while also contributing positively to a wider team.
