How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Join a practical, supportive engineering team

    We’re looking for a hands-on Mechanical Services Engineer to join our team at Austin Heating & Cooling. This is a practical, site-based role for someone who enjoys fault-finding, fixing problems properly and helping customers keep their heating, hot water, ventilation and mechanical systems running reliably.

    About the role

    As a Mechanical Services Engineer, you’ll carry out service, planned maintenance, reactive maintenance, installation, commissioning, fault-finding and repairs across commercial and domestic mechanical building services systems. You’ll be based from Ingham near Thetford, with regular travel to customer sites.

    What you’ll be doing

    * Working on heating and hot water systems, pumps, pressurisation units, expansion vessels, valves, pipework, distribution systems, ventilation, air handling equipment, air conditioning, refrigeration plant, water treatment equipment and BMS-controlled mechanical systems.

    * Carrying out mechanical pipework installations using copper, carbon steel, stainless steel and plastic pipework systems.

    * Using technical drawings, schematics and specifications to understand the job and complete the work correctly.

    * Reporting clearly on equipment condition, faults found, work completed and any recommended repairs, upgrades or replacements.

    * Completing job cards, reports, maintenance paperwork and timesheets accurately and on time.

    * Communicating clearly with customers and end users while on site.

    * Spotting practical opportunities for repairs, improvements or follow-on work that support customers and the company.

    * Helping trainees, junior engineers and colleagues by sharing practical site knowledge where required.

    What we’re looking for

    * A practical engineer who takes pride in doing the job properly and safely.

    * Experience working on commercial mechanical services systems with good fault-finding and problem-solving skills.

    * Confidence reading and working from technical drawings and schematics and a good understanding of site Health & Safety and safe systems of work, with clear communication skills when dealing with customers, site contacts and colleagues.

    * A full clean UK driving licence.

    * An Enhanced DBS check, or willingness to complete one as part of the role.

    * NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds Level 3, or an equivalent practical qualification in Plumbing, Heating, Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or similar.

    Desirable skills and qualifications

    * Commercial Gas qualifications.

    * Unvented Hot Water Certificate (G3) and Water Regulations qualification.

    * HVAC or refrigeration qualifications.

    * BMS experience, Pipefitting experience, Legionella awareness.

    * IPAF and PASMA and UKATA Asbestos Awareness.
