How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Smile Education are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Maintenance Operative to start as soon as possible at a well-established organisation based in Harborne, Birmingham.

    The successful applicant will be responsible for carrying out a wide range of planned and reactive maintenance duties, ensuring buildings and facilities are maintained to a high standard. This is a hands-on role requiring a skilled multi-trade operative with experience in general building maintenance, particularly plastering, carpentry, decorating, and general repairs.
    This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive and professional team within a respected organisation. The expected pay rate for the role is between £16.00 - £17.00 per hour, depending on experience.

    Duties and Responsibilities:
    Carrying out general building repairs and maintenance across the site.
    Completing plastering, carpentry, decorating, and other multi-trade maintenance tasks.
    Responding promptly to planned and reactive maintenance requests.
    Supporting the Maintenance Manager with a variety of repair and maintenance projects.
    Ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
    Operating tools and equipment safely and in line with health and safety procedures.
    Undertaking manual handling tasks, including lifting and moving equipment and materials where required.
    Responding appropriately to emergency maintenance situations.
    Maintaining a clean, safe, and organised working environment.
    Supporting colleagues and providing cover where required.The Ideal Candidate Will:
    Have previous experience working as a Maintenance Operative, Multi-Trade Operative, or Building Maintenance Technician.
    Hold a minimum Level 2 qualification in a relevant trade, with plastering being essential.
    Have experience in carpentry, decorating, and general building maintenance.
    Be physically fit and capable of carrying out manual handling duties.
    Be able to work independently and use their own initiative.
    Demonstrate a mature, reliable, and professional approach to work.
    Hold a full UK driving licence.
    Have a good understanding of health and safety procedures.What to Expect from Applicants:
