How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Are you an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor with a strong background in civils and commercial management?

Do you have extensive experience producing CVRs, commercial reporting and working under NEC contracts?

Are you looking for a lead commercial role where you can take ownership of projects across the Wales and Western region while working for a specialist rail and geotechnical contractor?

Location: Preston or Manchester office with travel to sites across the Wales and Western region + hybrid working (3 days office / 2 days home)
    Salary: £54,000 - £64,000 per annum DOE + £6,000 car allowance

    Role Overview:
My client is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to become the commercial lead for their Wales and Western region, supporting the delivery of specialist geotechnical and rail infrastructure projects.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join an established contractor delivering complex netting, soil nailing and IRATA rope access works for major clients including Network Rail and main contractors. Projects typically range in value from £1.6 million up to £14 million and are delivered within fast-paced rail possessions and blockade environments.

Reporting directly to the Regional Commercial Manager, you will act as the lead Quantity Surveyor for the region, taking responsibility for the overall commercial performance of multiple projects.

You will work alongside another Quantity Surveyor who focuses primarily on change management and applications for payment, allowing you to concentrate on commercial reporting, CVRs and providing strategic commercial oversight.

The role offers a genuine hybrid working arrangement, based from either the Preston or Manchester office with travel to project sites approximately every other week across the Wales and Western region, including works near Bristol and the Seven Estuary area.

This opportunity would suit an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor who enjoys taking ownership of the commercial function and is looking to play a key role within a growing regional business.

    Key Responsibilities:
·Lead the commercial management of multiple civils and rail infrastructure projects across the Wales and Western region.
·Take ownership of Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs) and provide accurate commercial reporting to senior management.
·Provide commercial oversight across projects, ensuring accurate forecasting, cost control and financial performance.
·Support the management of NEC contracts, predominantly Option A and Option E.
·Work closely with the wider commercial team on change management and applications for payment.
·Produce accurate monthly reports, forecasts and commercial updates.
·Identify commercial risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
·Maintain strong relationships with clients, operational teams and key stakeholders.
·Support the successful commercial delivery of projects from pre-construction through to final account.

    Essential Requirements:
·Previous experience working as a Senior Quantity Surveyor or Quantity Surveyor within the civils sector.
·Strong experience producing CVRs, commercial reporting and financial forecasting.
·Experience working under NEC contracts (any NEC form considered however you will mainly be working on NEC4 option A&E).
·A well-rounded commercial background with experience managing projects throughout the full commercial lifecycle.
·Degree qualified or equivalent in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
·Ability to travel to project sites across the Wales and Western region on a fortnightly basis.

    Desirable Requirements:
    ·Previous rail infrastructure experience.
·Experience working on geotechnical, earthworks or specialist civils projects.
·Experience delivering projects for Network Rail or major rail contractors.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a specialist contractor with an impressive portfolio of rail and geotechnical projects, offering long-term career development and the chance to take ownership of the commercial function within a growing regional team.
