How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Description
Every day, CMS2 technology helps submariners operate safely in one of the world's most challenging environments. By developing and supporting high-availability atmosphere management systems that generate breathable air for extended underwater operations, we play a vital role in submarine capability. As a Project Engineer, you will support the delivery of these mission-critical engineering solutions, working closely with customers, suppliers and multidisciplinary teams across the full product lifecycle.

Reporting to the Industrialisation Manager, you will combine technical problem-solving with project delivery responsibilities, ensuring engineering solutions are developed, manufactured, tested and delivered in line with customer requirements. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will coordinate engineering activities, manage technical documentation, support risk management activities and contribute to successful project delivery.
This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop your technical and project management skills while working on complex systems operating in highly regulated defence environments. You will gain exposure to the full engineering lifecycle and play an important role in supporting products that directly contribute to submarine operations.

    Key Responsibilities

Support the delivery of engineering projects throughout the product lifecycle, from concept and design through to manufacture, test and customer acceptance.

Coordinate activities across Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality and Project Management functions.

Provide technical support for design improvement and obsolescence management activities.

Create, maintain and control Product Bills of Materials (BoMs).

Maintain engineering specifications, drawings and associated technical documentation.

Support engineering change and configuration management activities.

Assist in the identification, management and mitigation of technical risks.

Participate in design reviews, technical reviews and project meetings.

Support customer technical queries and contribute to customer review activities.

Work with suppliers to resolve technical queries and support procurement activities.

Support manufacturing, assembly, testing and commissioning teams in resolving technical issues.

Contribute to verification, validation and qualification activities.

Review technical publications, operating manuals and maintenance documentation.

Monitor progress against project plans and provide updates to Project Managers and Engineering leadership.

Support continuous improvement initiatives across products, processes and engineering practices.

Ensure all activities comply with company procedures, customer requirements and quality standards.

    Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
    Essential:

Degree-qualified, HNC/HND qualified, or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering or a related discipline.

Relevant engineering experience within a manufacturing, project delivery or systems engineering environment, typically gained through at least two years in industry

Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.

Understanding of engineering lifecycle processes and configuration control principles.

    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

Good communication and stakeholder management skills.

    Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Eligible to obtain and maintain UK Security Clearance.
    Desirable

Experience within the Defence, Maritime, Naval, Aerospace or Nuclear sectors.

    Knowledge of systems engineering principles.

Experience with ERP, MRP or PLM systems.

Familiarity with engineering change management processes.

Understanding of risk management, FMEA or root cause analysis methodologies.

Exposure to verification and validation activities.

Project management training or qualifications such as APM Fundamentals, APM PMQ or PRINCE2 Foundation.

    Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be a proactive engineer who enjoys solving technical problems and seeing projects progress from concept through to delivery. They will be comfortable working across multiple disciplines, building strong relationships with colleagues and customers, and taking ownership of technical work packages. They will be motivated by learning, developing their engineering capability and contributing to products that have a real operational impact.
