How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    I'm currently working with a leading engineering and infrastructure company that is looking to appoint an experienced MEICA Estimator to support the delivery of major water and wastewater projects across the UK.

    This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong background in Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation (MEICA) estimating who enjoys working collaboratively across bid, commercial and project teams to secure and deliver high-value infrastructure projects.

    The Role

    As a MEICA Estimator, you'll play a key role in developing competitive tenders from initial enquiry through to contract award. Working closely with engineering, commercial and operational teams, you'll be responsible for producing accurate cost estimates, assessing technical requirements and helping shape practical delivery solutions.

    You'll also remain involved beyond tender stage, supporting project teams during mobilisation and providing technical input throughout the early phases of delivery.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Produce detailed bottom-up cost estimates for MEICA works.

    * Review client specifications, technical drawings and project documentation to develop accurate pricing.

    * Prepare and issue enquiries for materials, equipment and subcontract packages.

    * Assess supplier and subcontractor quotations for technical compliance, scope and commercial value.

    * Contribute to bid submissions, methodology development and technical responses.

    * Identify project risks and opportunities during the tender process.

    * Develop project budgets, cost plans and estimate build-ups.

    * Ensure tender submissions comply with internal governance and contractual requirements.

    * Work alongside engineering and commercial teams to improve estimating accuracy through lessons learned from completed projects.

    * Promote innovative, cost-effective and safe engineering solutions throughout the bidding process.

    About You

    We're looking for someone who combines strong technical knowledge with commercial awareness and has experience pricing MEICA packages within the utilities or infrastructure sectors.

    Essential

    * Experience in a MEICA Estimator, Mechanical Estimator, Electrical Estimator or Proposals Engineer position.

    * Previous estimating experience within the water or wastewater sector.

    * Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical installations, instrumentation, control and automation systems.

    * Ability to interpret engineering drawings and produce detailed labour, plant and material cost estimates.

    * Experience reviewing supplier quotations and technical submissions.

    * Good understanding of NEC contracts and framework agreements.

    * HNC, HND, Foundation Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.

    * Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

    Desirable

    * Experience using estimating software such as Candy.

    * Knowledge of WIMES standards.

    * SMSTS or SSSTS.

    * CSCS Card.

    * First Aid qualification.

    * Company pension and life assurance.

    * 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
