How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    SEND Teaching Assistant - Rochdale

Hours: Full Time, Monday to Friday, Term Time Only
Pay: £92.56 to £120 per day (dependent on experience)

Aspire People is working with a specialist SEN school in Rochdale to recruit a committed and experienced SEND Teaching Assistant. This is a full-time opportunity to support children and young people with a range of additional needs, including autism, communication difficulties, sensory processing needs and complex learning needs.

The school provides a structured and nurturing environment where pupils receive tailored support to help them develop academically, socially and emotionally. Small class sizes and high staff-to-pupil ratios enable staff to deliver personalised support throughout the school day.

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and other specialist staff to support pupils with varying levels of need. Some pupils require assistance with communication and social interaction, whilst others may need support managing sensory needs, emotional regulation or engagement with learning.

You will play a key role in helping pupils access a personalised curriculum, encouraging independence and supporting them to achieve their individual EHCP outcomes.

No two days are the same, and the successful candidate must be adaptable, patient and confident working within a specialist environment.

    Key Responsibilities

    - Support pupils with a range of SEND, including autism and complex needs
    - Deliver targeted support on a 1:1 basis and in small groups

    - Use visual supports, communication systems and structured routines
    - Help pupils develop social, communication and independence skills
    - Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
    - Assist with transitions and daily routines
    - Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and support staff
    - Contribute to a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment

We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate:

    - Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND
    - A good understanding of autism and associated needs
    - Confidence supporting pupils with communication and behavioural challenges
    - The ability to build positive and professional relationships
    - A calm, resilient and proactive approach
    - A genuine commitment to supporting pupils with additional needs

    Essential Requirements

    - Experience working with pupils with SEND
    - Team Teach training or similar de-escalation/positive handling training
    - Full-time availability, Monday to Friday
    - Fluent spoken and written English
    - Eligibility to work in the UK
    - Willingness to complete safeguarding and recruitment checks

    Beneficial Experience

    - Applications are welcomed from candidates with backgrounds in:
    - SEN schools or specialist provisions
    - Autism support roles
    - Residential care
    - Support work
    - Youth work
    - SEMH settings
    - Healthcare or complex needs support

    What Aspire People Offers

    - Competitive daily rates of up to £120
    - A long-term opportunity within a specialist SEN setting
    - Ongoing support from a dedicated education consultant
    - Access to training and professional development
    - Opportunities to progress into permanent school-based roles

If you have SEND experience and are looking for a rewarding opportunity within a specialist school in Rochdale, we would love to hear from you. Apply today and a member of the Aspire People team will be in touch to discuss the role in more detail.
