How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job Title: Business Engagement / Account Manager

    Reporting To: Head of Membership and Global Trade Services

    Location: Bedfordshire

    Contract Type: Permanent

    Luton office; 8:30am – 5pm with one hour lunch

    Role Overview

    The Account Manager will actively engage with our members to ensure they receive genuine value from their membership. This is a relationship focused, commercially aware role with responsibility for member retention, identifying opportunities for collaboration.

    Job Responsibilities:

    Actively engage with members on a regular basis through phone, email and in-person attendance at events, discussing matters of importance to them and advising as required.
    Cross-identify opportunities for member-to-member collaboration and arrange introductions as necessary.
    Update members on upcoming events, encouraging attendance and inviting participation.
    Stay abreast of policy and legislative changes and economic factors which could affect our members; hold thoughtful conversations and provide relevant updates.
    Keep relevant members informed of grants, funding opportunities or dispensations available to their business.
    Attend Chamber events as a representative of membership engagement.
    Hold meetings with members to understand how the Chamber can serve them more effectively.
    Manage annual membership renewal conversations; understand and record the reasons where a business chooses to leave.
    Assist in marketing efforts by suggesting relevant content, articles or mailers of interest to the membership.
    Maintain the CRM system, keeping contact details, business information and key stakeholder records up to date.

    Person Requirements:

    Experienced business professional who is commercially astute and confident communicating with senior stakeholders.
    A social chameleon – able to adapt tone, language and approach to suit a wide variety of audiences.
    Personable, warm and genuinely interested in people and their businesses.
    Highly organised with a structured, process-driven approach to managing a portfolio of members.
    Demonstrable experience in account management or relationship management.
    Flexible and willing to attend occasional evening events.

    Desirable:

    Experience working within a membership organisation, trade body or similar stakeholder-facing environment.
    Familiarity with CRM systems and data management.
    An understanding of the local Bedfordshire business community.
