How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Berrys

At Berrys, we are all about land and property. Working from four offices across the Midlands, we offer an array of services - planning, architecture, building surveying, valuation and business consultancy - to help our clients make the most of their assets.

You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team made up of surveyors, engineers, planners and architects. You will be part of a business which is big enough for a varied range of work and opportunities. However, it is small enough to provide autonomy and a chance to really get to know everyone – expanding your skills and building new connections.

Your role will sit within a team whose work ranges from applications and appeals to site promotions.

At Berrys, our projects span everything from self-build houses and rural diversification projects to strategic large-scale developments.  You will have the opportunity to manage your own caseload of projects, and to develop specialist skills in areas you find particularly interesting.

Role Profile - Graduate Planning Consultant

The role will suit somebody who has recently graduated or is due to graduate, or alternatively, if you are somebody who has a few years' experience. This role offers exposure to a varied portfolio of projects, from householder and rural diversification schemes through to major residential, commercial and strategic development proposals. You will develop a strong foundation in planning consultancy, gaining experience in client management, project delivery, planning strategy and development management.

Role Responsibilities - Graduate Planning Consultant

Undertaking planning research, report writing and the preparation of planning submissions to support a wide range of client projects.

Managing smaller planning applications and projects, whilst supporting senior colleagues on larger and more complex developments.

Preparing planning statements, appraisals and other professional reports.

Liaising with clients, local authorities and other stakeholders throughout the planning process.

Providing a high standard of client service to a diverse client base including householders, farmers, developers, investors and landed estates.

Attending site visits and assisting with the provision of planning advice and recommendations.

Working collaboratively with colleagues across Berrys' planning, surveying, architectural and engineering teams to deliver integrated consultancy services.

Developing professional knowledge and progressing towards RTPI membership through ongoing training and development opportunities.

Person Specification - Graduate Planning Consultant

We are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible, dynamic and motivated individual with a “can-do” attitude, who has:

Undergraduate degree in town planning or a related subject (e.g. Geography)

Desire to work towards Master's Degree/ Professional (RTPI) Qualifications

Confident manner and willingness to learn from others

    Proactive and diligent

Competent user of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

Ability to work independently and proactively with minimal supervision

Excellent written English and problem-solving abilities

Full UK driving licence and access to a car

We will support the right candidate through a Masters degree including day release to attend in person sessions and fund your attendance at relevant CPD events and approved training.

Hours:  37.5 hours per week, to be worked flexibly Monday-Friday, to be worked in line with our Agile Working Philosophy

    Benefits - Graduate Planning Consultant

The role sits within a friendly and supportive team with opportunities to develop.

We will offer an excellent salary for the right candidate reflective of your skills, qualifications and experience
