How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    About the Role

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Rent Arrears Recovery professional to step into a visible leadership role, where your expertise will directly support income collection, tenancy sustainment and positive outcomes for residents. You will lead a dedicated team of six Rent Arrears Recovery Officers, driving a proactive, professional and customer-focused recovery service for general needs housing. You will bring confidence in rent recovery, court action, Possession Claims Online and presenting cases in court, alongside the leadership skills needed to improve performance, motivate staff and deliver high-quality outcomes. If you are commercially aware, confident in enforcement processes and passionate about balancing income recovery with meaningful resident support, this role offers the chance to make an immediate impact within a busy and respected housing service.

    What You'll Be Doing

Lead, motivate and support a team of Rent Arrears Recovery Officers to deliver a responsive, high-performing income recovery service.

Drive effective arrears-reduction activity while ensuring residents receive the right advice, support, and intervention at the earliest opportunity.

Provide expert guidance on rent recovery, enforcement action, court preparation and customer-focused income management.

Oversee complex arrears cases, ensuring appropriate, timely and legally compliant action is taken in line with policy and statutory guidance.

Prepare and present cases at court, including the effective use of Possession Claims Online where required.

Champion continuous improvement by identifying ways to strengthen processes, increase collection performance and enhance customer outcomes.

Build strong working relationships with internal teams and external partners to support tenancy sustainment, early intervention and income maximisation.

Maintain accurate records and ensure that all casework, enforcement activities, and customer contacts are completed to a consistently high standard.

    About You

A strong background in housing rent recovery, income collection and enforcement, ideally within a local authority or social housing environment.

Proven experience leading, supervising or supporting rent recovery teams to achieve service targets and improve performance.

Confident knowledge of court processes, Possession Claims Online and presenting rent arrears cases in court.

A balanced and professional approach, with the ability to combine firm recovery action with empathy, early intervention and tenancy sustainment.

Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, residents and partner agencies.

The ability to remain calm under pressure, manage competing priorities and make sound decisions in a fast-paced service environment.

Excellent attention to detail and confidence maintaining accurate records across multiple systems.

A minimum of five GCSEs, including English and Maths, or equivalent qualifications.

Degree-level education or equivalent relevant experience is desirable.

    Why Apply?

You will be joining a role where your leadership, technical knowledge and judgement will be valued from day one. This is a strong opportunity to influence service delivery, support a capable team and contribute to a housing service that makes a meaningful difference to residents while protecting vital rental income.

Apply today to be considered for this rewarding interim opportunity.
