How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Gi Group are proud to partner McLaren in Woking in the search for a People Advisor.

    This a 6 month temporary assignment which may extend further.

    Applicants should be at or working towards CIPD Level 5, must have had experience in a fast paced HR department and be prepared to deal with ER cases, manager coaching and working at pace.

    Purpose of the role:

    The role is focused on supporting managers and employees with day-to-day people queries, routine employee relations matters and core People processes, ensuring timely, practical and consistent advice in line with policy, process and good practice.

    Working closely with the broader People Business Partners, ER Specialist and People Operations team, the role will help triage incoming queries, support low-risk ER activity, maintain accurate documentation and ensure day-to-day activity is progressed efficiently. The assignment is intended to provide additional operational capacity, reduce pressure on the wider People.

    Principal accountabilities:

    * Act as a front-line point of contact for managers and employees, responding to routine People queries in a timely, practical and policy-aligned way.

    * Provide day-to-day advice on People processes, including absence, probation, flexible working, family leave, onboarding, internal moves and exits.

    * Identify and escalate more complex, sensitive or higher-risk matters to the People Business Partner or ER Specialist at the earliest opportunity.

    * Support consistent application of policy and process, helping managers understand the correct steps, documentation and follow-up actions required.

    * Arrange and support ER meetings where required, including preparing packs, taking notes, drafting follow-up correspondence and tracking actions.

    * Maintain clear case notes and ensure risks, themes or delays are escalated promptly to the People Business Partner or ER Specialist.

    * Support the smooth delivery of day-to-day People processes flows, forms and approvals ensuring activity is progressed accurately, consistently and within expected timescales.

    * Work closely with People Operations to ensure employee records, system updates, approvals and documentation are completed and maintained accurately.

    * Support process administration linked to absence, probation, flexible working, family leave, leavers, changes to terms and other routine People activity.

    Knowledge, skills & experience:

    * Previous HR advisory or People Advisor experience, ideally within a UK-based organisation.

    * Experience supporting routine employee relations matters, with confidence identifying when to escalate risk or complexity.

    * Good working knowledge of HR policies, employment lifecycle processes and UK employment law principles.

    * Strong administration and documentation skills, with the ability to maintain accurate records, trackers and follow-up actions.

    * Comfortable working at pace, managing a range of day-to-day queries and prioritising effectively.

    * CIPD qualification or working towards CIPD accreditation is desirable but not essential.

    * Practical, calm and solutions-focused, with sound judgement around confidentiality, risk and escalation.

    * Clear communicator who can explain policy, process and next steps in a simple and consistent way.

    * Highly organised, accurate and reliable in managing workload, documentation and follow-through.

    * Collaborative and flexible, with a willingness to provide hands-on support during a temporary assignment period.
