How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Principal Civil Engineer
    South Leeds

An established and highly respected multi-disciplinary Engineering Consultancy is looking to appoint a Principal Civil Engineer to strengthen its growing Infrastructure team in South Leeds.

With decades of experience delivering civil and structural engineering solutions across the UK, the Consultancy has built an excellent reputation for technical excellence, long-standing client relationships and developing its people. Continued investment in the business, together with a strong and varied workload across commercial, industrial, residential, healthcare, education, energy and public sector developments, has created an excellent opportunity for an experienced Civil Engineer to play a leading role within the team.

Working alongside an experienced leadership group, you'll take ownership of technically challenging infrastructure projects from initial feasibility through planning, detailed design and construction. This is a genuine opportunity to influence project delivery, mentor and develop Engineers, strengthen client relationships and contribute towards the continued growth of a well-established Civil Engineering team, whilst remaining hands-on with the engineering itself.

The role offers a varied workload involving the design and delivery of highways, drainage and development infrastructure schemes for clients across both the public and private sectors. You'll lead projects through every stage of the design process, producing and reviewing technical reports, calculations and drawings, coordinating multidisciplinary design teams and ensuring projects are delivered to programme, budget and the highest technical standards.

Working closely with clients, architects, planners, structural engineers, Local Authorities and statutory bodies, you'll oversee the design of highways, drainage, external works, levels, earthworks, utilities coordination, SuDS and flood mitigation solutions, together with the delivery of both adoptable and private infrastructure. A strong understanding of Section 38, Section 278, Section 104 and Section 185 agreements, together with the wider development approval process, will enable you to provide practical and commercially aware engineering solutions across a diverse range of projects.

Alongside technical delivery, you'll provide leadership within the team by mentoring Engineers and Technicians, undertaking design reviews and quality assurance, supporting the development of junior staff and helping to maintain the Consultancy's reputation for delivering high-quality engineering solutions. You'll also play an important role in developing long-term client relationships, identifying opportunities for repeat business and contributing to the continued success of the Civil Engineering discipline.

Applicants should be degree qualified in Civil Engineering and possess significant experience delivering highways and drainage infrastructure projects within a UK consultancy environment. You'll have a strong technical understanding of current UK design standards and be comfortable managing projects and coordinating multidisciplinary teams. Experience using AutoCAD, Civil 3D and drainage design software such as InfoDrainage or MicroDrainage would be highly advantageous, while Chartered status, or being actively working towards it, would be welcomed.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a Consultancy where technical excellence remains at the heart of the business and where experienced Engineers are trusted to make decisions, influence projects and shape the future of the team. You'll enjoy a collaborative working environment, approachable Directors who remain actively involved in project delivery, a varied and technically interesting workload, and genuine opportunities to continue progressing your career within a business that has built its reputation on quality, professionalism and long-term relationships.
