How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    A well-established multidisciplinary property and construction consultancy is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to join their team in Oakington, Cambridgeshire. The successful Senior Civil Engineer will provide practical and commercially focused civil engineering solutions across a diverse range of public and private sector projects. As Senior Civil Engineer, you will contribute to projects involving building drainage, external works and civil infrastructure. This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Civil Engineer looking to take greater technical and commercial responsibility within a collaborative consultancy.

    The Senior Civil Engineer Role

    The Senior Civil Engineer will support the technical and commercial delivery of civil engineering projects from initial concept through to completion.

    Key responsibilities will include:

    Producing practical and economical civil engineering designs
    Delivering building drainage, external works and infrastructure schemes
    Interpreting client requirements and developing suitable design solutions
    Managing project tasks within agreed programmes and budgets
    Supporting fee proposals, bids and commercial project monitoring
    Coordinating with internal multidisciplinary teams and external consultants
    Maintaining accurate project, fee and progress information
    Promoting the consultancy's civil engineering services
    Ensuring projects are completed professionally and to a high technical standardThe Senior Civil Engineer may also work on projects requiring DBS, BPSS, Counter Terrorist Check, Security Check or Developed Vetting clearance.

    The Senior Civil Engineer

    The successful Senior Civil Engineer will have:

    A degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline
    Chartered membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers, or progress towards chartership
    Strong post-qualification civil engineering experience
    Experience working across public and private sector projects
    Knowledge of drainage, external works and civil infrastructure design
    Comprehensive knowledge of UK Building Regulations and relevant legislation
    Strong commercial awareness and project management ability
    Excellent communication, teamwork and client-facing skills
